I was told by my family that "this whole hippy thing is just a phase." when I was a teen. 17, almost 18 years later, I'm still in my hippy phase.
My parents used to say that to me when I was a teen...they gave up awhile ago when they realized that Im just weird...its not a phase. lol. I went and saw my grandparents over the wknd. and I had my hair up the whole time so they wouldnt harass me. Finally my grandma said...Where are all those braidy knots you had sticking out in your hair? lol. I took my hair down and she gasped. It was funny. But then she said they look nice when I wear them up...so that was nice...I think. =]
Lol @ all the "it's a phase" stuff... *sigh* I still wonder at my mum never really saying anything about the changes in my appearance over the last 8 or so years...because it seems so unlike her. For ages she thought my tattoos were just transfers...maybe she was in denial lol.. I remember when I was about 9 or 10 we were in a museum, and a group of punky types came and stood quite near us. There was a guy with a bright blue mohawk. I thought they all looked really interesting, and my mum quickly dragged me off into another part of the museum. Maybe she just doesn't know what to say to the fact I've turned out looking like the kind of people she'd drag me away from lol
Funny like that aren't they parents? Unfortunately with my parents my weirdness got off of hand. You see they've never accepted that I can make decisions for myself. They've always assumed that I've been led astray by seedy people and suicidal music. Needless to say they haven't spoken to me in four years. I couldn't care less. I'm really happy
Wow HelloD! That sucks bout your 'rents! Im glad your happy inspite of their ignorance! =] Their missing out on you. My parents never really cared how I dressed growing up. I used to dress like punky brewster as a kid....i thought she was the coolest! lmao! I would tear up my jeans and tie bandanas around my arms. Oh lord! Hillarious! Then when I was 12 I saw Ani difranco on the cover of a magazine. she had rainbow dreadlocks and I was so intrigued! I had never seen anything like that before. I washed cars in the neighborhood for about a week and saved enough money to buy an ani cd. After that, I was hooked! Ani became my role model and fashion inspiration. I dyed my hair all funky colors and kept it in braids instead of dreads cuz I was clueless about dreads at the time. Then...I became a huge Nirvanna fan and got really into the whole grunge early 90's scene....lol. So, I wore flannels and baggy tore up jeans and Doc Martins... funny how music really inspires ones fashion choices. Now I could care less about making any bold statements with my fashion....I spend more time working on my insides [spirtuality and stuff]. =]
Hmmm....you gave me some ideas with that. Wish I could sew. any seamstresses in here? Hows about a long patch work skirt with Beethovens face on the front with musical notes flying all around it?! lol. Id sport it. I loooove classical! =]
You could make that! Do you know how to stencil? My mom still thinks I'll grow out of my "phase". Piercings and tattoos are a "phase". Punk music, "phase". Bisexuality, "phase". Watch, I'm going to hear "your dreadlocks are a phase". I've wanted them for as long as I can remember, it's not a phase! Argh! And all this from a supposed flower child that lived in Haight Ashbury and went to Woodstock '69. Hm.
yeah thats my argument. my moms been dying her hair since she was 14, she was a smoker, she wore miniskirts to work (and got done for it hah)
i had one when i was about 10 or 11, and mom left the cage door open and it escaped (we had 2 cats at the time..) and silly hampster went under the floorboards for 2 weeks. i was devastated.. and then theres the time she was in her ball, and she rolled down the stairs, the ball broke, and the cat was at the bottom =O stupid bloody creature. i loved her though =[
i saw the pic in the other thread.. i wannit! i lubb hampsters, and ratties.. but anyway, how is everyone today? im having a happy day today, yaay
