With solid shampoo from the LUSH company, there is no waste packaging. ... Bars (all are without SLS unless marked): ... summer curly hair care products · salon hair care product diversion · more articles in reducing waste. reference ... reducing-waste.suite101.com/article.cfm/lush_shampoo_bars_end_bottle_waste - 37k - Cached - Similar pages Read it again...all are without SLS unless marked. The ones without SLS have Sodium Coco-Sulfate in them. My issues with these ingredients are: they leave residue they are linked with causing cancer they are skin & eye irritants they are not necessary to make a shampoo bar, they are lathering agents that have no other purpose
all are without unless marked. that makes sense when a company is discontinuing using the stuff now doesnt it? seems like a sensible disclaimer to keep from having to take their older inventory off the shelves.. besides that, you have been saying it ALL does, and that now turns out to be incorrect.in fact the disclaimer reads as if very little of their products do. at least thats the way i comprehend it. any way it goes your information was not completely factual.
HHB, this was taken from your links: "There are currently nine "flavours" of shampoo available, of which seven are in bar form, and two are chunks. Six of the flavours are made without SLS, sodium lauryl sulphate, substituting sodium coco-sulphate, derived from coconut oil. Bars (all are without SLS unless marked): Godiva (jasmine) - still uses SLS Hybrid (lemon, fennel) - still uses SLS Karma Komba (citrus, patchouli) NEW! (cinnamon) Seanik (orange blossom) Soak and Float (eliminates dandruff) Squeaky Green (herbal) Ultimate Shine (floral) In chunk form, contains SLS: The Blonde (citrus) Trichomania (coconut cream pie)." So they are still using SLS and sodium coco-sulphate in their shampoo bars. Here's some info on sodium coco-sulphate: "I've often read that Sodium Coco Sulfate is a gentler alternative to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate because it is derived from coconuts. I'm rather skeptical of this claim, since Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is also derived from coconut. I did some digging (a LOT of digging, there's almost no unbiased information on sodium coco sulfate), and I found that the two also have the same CAS number of 151-21-3. I'm no chemist, but I've always understood that if the CAS number is the same, the chemical is the same. Why are the cosmetic companies lying and trying to mislead us with sodium coco sulfate? Is it because of the bad rap that SLS has? Or am I missing something here about sodium coco sulfate? The Beauty Brains: Stephanie, Great question. With a little help from the CTFA's Dictionary of International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients I found the answer. The difference is really one of purification. Coconut oil is made up of a wide range of fatty acids. They can have as few as 8 carbon atoms and as many as 20. The majority of the fatty acids are of the 12 carbon variety. That means 45-50% of coconut oil is a fatty acid containing 12 carbons. When manufacturers make their sulfate detergents they can take pure coconut oil and run the "sulfating" reaction to produce Sodium Coco-sulfate. However, this material doesn't foam as well and will vary depending on the quality of the coconut crops harvested that year. Sodium Lauryl sulfate is really just a purified version of the same material. In this case they take the coconut oil and remove most of the non-12 carbon fatty acids. Their starting material is then about 80% C-12 instead of 45-50% C-12. Ultimately, both products are primarily C-12 or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate so they get the same CAS number. However, pure SLS is more efficient and of more reliable quality so most manufacturers use this."
you never said they sold stuff without it either. to me that implies it all does. but thats just me..
If you had bothered to read my posts again you would have noticed that I said "Lush uses SLS and/or Sodium Coco-Sulfate in their shampoo bars, neither are natural and both can leave residue." again and again and again. One more time for ya: Lush uses SLS and/or Sodium Coco-Sulfate in their shampoo bars, neither are natural and both can leave residue. All of their bars have either SLS or sodium coco-sulfate. None of them are made with saponified oils to produce lather. I did not give incorrect information as you claimed. To clarify it for you one last time, some of their shampoo bars have SLS and the others have sodium coco-sulfate.
thanks for the comments re: my crappy V night yall! =] So...is lush good or bad cuz i was gonna try some but now Im just confused...
IMO: Lush is on the right track by using fresh, natural ingredients and they make it by hand, but they use SLS and sodium coco-sulfate which leave residue among other things. Because of these lathering agents, the shampoo bars are not river/eco friendly, which is important to me.
Lush smells nice and tends to employ nice, articulate, and frequently attractive shop assistants. That will do me.
I've decided that college isn't for me right now. I was just dropped from my english class. I feel like I haven' slept in weeks and the stress is just too much. I feel like a quitter but I'm not because I'm doing this for my mental health. I just need to get a job and live my life for a year on my own with my boyfriend of course.
Sounds like a good plan I quit uni in my second year because I realised it just wasn't where I was meant to be at that time. I must have just stunned my parents because neither of them really said anything about it; I think I had been expected to go to medical school and be some kind of amazing person just coz I was brainy. I'm just not cut out for being a proper grown-up type of person. So yeh...it's best that you do what feels right for you now
I just know that a lot of my family is going to say I told you so and be disappointed I just have to make sure I ignore them
i guess what it boils down to is interpretation of your words, and semantics.. its really neither here nor there to me as i dont use the shit. i just saw that they were discontinuing using the shit and thought id point it out.. wasnt trying to start the great debate or anything..:cheers2:
Hey guess what? On Saturday a had a piece of toenail in my eye for about 12 hours. Impressive huh? That beat my previous weird-eye record of having a fly on my eyeball for maybe an hour without realising, until I looked in a mirror and saw it there.
My 5 year old begins school this fall and I am going to go back to school myself. At 35 Callie gets to decide what she wants to be when she grows up...too classic.
youre 18 right? i was the same when i was 18.. i was all set to go to uni and do another 4 years, get a degree, be amazing,, and then at the last minute i simply decided i didnt want to go. so i didnt. im now doing something that i love, ive met the most amazing people doing it, and its the best choice i made. point is.. [i presume] you can go back to school later in life.. as callie as said, shes going back, so if you reach a stage in your life when everything is fine and you wanna do a silly essay with a stupid title, then the chance is there =] dont feel bad about it - from what i gather, you need to take time out. seriously. you need to get yourself sorted.. ie, de-stress, de-virus your bloke and just enjoy life for the moment. and we all need to get a job, fear not =]
I believe it is good! I adore washing my hair w/ the stuff. as you can see the SLS debate but bcmama posted on which bars have it and not. I use the new shampoo bar which doesn't have it. It's fab as the cinnamon in it promotes growth, yey! the smell is divine too and they last for ages. Lush is one of my favourite shops. makes me feel happy
