It started as a Facebook post asking to help me find an ideal music player:

On the recommendation of my wife, I have been using PI music player for years. I liked it okay, but it did have a few glitches from the beginning. Well, the music gets interupted while I'm on the road and hit a dead zone-- I DON'T EVER STREAM MUSIC, I PLAY FLAC and MP3 FILES FROM MY COLLECTION!!!!!
So I'm thinking of switching to an offline player-- so does anyone use LARK?
Because NOBODY wants what I want so I can't ever formulate a question on any search engine that actually gets the results I want.
All I want is two things out of a music playing ap-- well, three things as a bonus.
One thing I NEED is an ap that allows you to IMPORT PLAYLISTS from PI music player (EVERY ap that says it's for transfering playlists, is ONLY for transfering playlists from STREAMING SERVICES TO OTHER STREAMING SERVICES.
HEY! FACEBOOK BOT! ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION? READY TO MINE ME?
LISTEN UP, WHATEVER CAPITALIST BOT IS READING THIS:
THERE IS A KIND OF PERSON OUT THERE WHO STRONGLY DISLIKES LISTENING TO STREAMING OR RADIO BROADCASTS, BUT PREFERS TO COLLECT MUSIC.

The other thing is "Shuffle" on ALL players as far as I can tell (I've literally tried dozens since I started using a phone for music) MERELY RE-ORDER your playlist, giving you TWO STATIC VERSIONS of the same playlist.
MP3 Players SHUFFLED THE PLAYLIST BRAND NEW EVERY TIME I HIT SHUFFLE.
FOR THE LOVE OF BAAL, IS THERE A "SHUFFLE" THAT SHUFFLES THINGS FOR PEOPLE WHO GET BORED WITH EVERY SONG PLAYING IN THE SAME ORDER, BUT ONLY TWO DIFFERENT WAYS BECAUSE WE HAPPEN TO HAVE A VERY POWERFUL MUSIC MEMORY AND CAN ACTUALLY TELL WHAT MOST PEOPLE CAN'T!!!!!
BONUS ROUND:
How about a "repeat" function that only repeats your PLAYLIST, NOT THE SAME SONG AGAIN AND AGAIN?
With an old school mp3 player you'd never hear the same song two times in a row on repeat-- it would play every song ONE GOD DAMNED TIME and then start all over again.
Again-- every music player for Android will end up playing certain random songs multiple times.
Does anyone have suggestions?
I never thought I'd be one of those old men who likes shit the old fashioned way, but you know shit ALWAYS and ONLY gets worse when you combine Marketing Bots with runnaway Capitalism.
Niche markets suffer.
Do I literally have find an actual mp3 player to get those awesome features back, or hasn't anybody thought to design an Android act that acts like one?

• Lark is really great. It re-shuffles your playlist every time you hit shuffle-- it doesn't just re-order your playlist and offer you one single alternate order of songs like EVERY SINGLE OTHER APP YOU CAN INSTALL ON YOUR PHONE.
  I don't know about you, but EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY THERE IS NOW HAS RIDICULOUSLY POOR PERFORMANCE BECAUSE IT IS PRIMARILY DESIGNED FOR PROFIT AND THEREFORE CATERS ONLY TO WHAT THE VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WANT.

  I am not ANYTHING like most people. Most people playing a LONE shuffled playlist can be satisfied with it.
  Well, anyone who knows me knows that playing music the single most immersive passion of my life. My brain is trained and brought up in music and I tell you this-- I can recognise and get familiar enough with 2 or maybe even 3 playlists and get bored with them in NO TIME.
  But I remember when I had an MP3 player-- I could play the same playlist with the same songs over and over again and NEVER get bored, because the next song would always be a surprise.
  Well Lark, you've sold me!
  But not 100%
  I can't transfer or load and saved playlists. Maybe that is because you need to purchase?
  No.
  If it cost $100 and I got to keep it and use it forever without worrying about if I was too broke to keep it up. Lark will not allow you to purchase their product outright.
  You have to buy a cheap, but continuous subscription and I abhor that business model.
  I would pay ANY price (that I am capable of paying) IF I could buy it outright.
  I HATE subscription services. I WILL NOT pay RENT on anything but a HOUSE or a RENTAL CAR (which can be cheaper than gas in the old beaters I drive).
  Except NordVPN, because it IS the best I DO need it (arrrrr, matey!) and it is a sacrifice I am willing to make to make a little trip to Libertania for free TV and Movie watching (Barbie was fantastic! I loved it!).
  But I love Lark, it is the very best player if you want simple functionality and not all the bullshit these other players ad to make them more competetive.
  I'll never understand the American concept of competition.

  On superbowl Sunday every fucking boradcast channel used to have SOMETHING ELSE superbowl related.

  Until I started playing Amtgard, I had absolutely nothing to do on Sunday but watch TV. I would have been GLUED to any channel that broadcast an old horror movie or Star Trek or something else instead.

  When I was 3 years old cable TV was a brand new thing. Well I couldn't understand why my neighbors would pay for TV when I could watch whatever I wanted on TV for free.
  It was explained to me that you paid for cable because YOU were funding the channel, not commercials, o you got to watch your shows uninterupted by commercials.

  That was the first thing they changed and I knew Capitalism was BULLSHIT the minute they started showing commercials on cable TV.
  The music industry was beginning to experience it's death throes when I came of age to try to make a living at it and sign on to a record label. That was emphasized when they decided to cancel LPs and just sell CDs. My dream of having my very own 12" LP in record stores was lost to me. These are just the first signs. The real reasons the music industry is HELL are numerous, complex and it is bad enough that I'm writing ONE essay (that nobody will ever read because FACEBOOK is bullshit) so I won't get into it.
  But does anybody agree with my idea of competition?
  If Capitalism didn't screw up televisionI'd watch all those ads. Tough shit, money people, you should have known that intelligent people would learn to bypass your buillshit. I never watch commercials and haven't in 20 years, thanks to ad blockers and Pirate Bay. And I haven't paid anything either.
  Besides actually organizing politically to further socialsim, that's the only response you can have to these evil, gredy bastards who do nothing but rip us off, don't pay us enough to live on, charge WAY too much for EVERYTHING, and don't really care that the world is falling to piecesas long as theyere's some money in it for them.

No man. Half of my rant was about me being a pirate. And the ap works, I just hate the subscription business model. They aught to let me buy it outright. My whole life has been about ducking out on a bunch of bullshit that other people think they need, so that I could spend my money on having fun and entertaining people. I hate autopay, and businesses that schedule you for autopay without informing you or giving you another option have a special place in hell. Let me tell you, man, I am never sure if I'm going to have money in the bank on any day of the month. This is all consumerist bullshit that capitalists set up so that they can just keep raking it in.

You put me on autopay, I don't have the money, I get an overdraft fee.
And that is NOT a bug, that's a feature!

 

And you know why socialism is so popular among the young people today? Because capitalism always takes more and more from the poor, and they can see that everything is geared to be sold to people with far more money than them. 40 years ago we still had capitalism and it still sucked, but they didn't turn the greed dial up to 11. If a company sold you a bum product you could complain to them and they'd usually be happy to replace it, and yeah, they still do that now, but back then, you could EXPECT it. They wouldn't DARE turn you away or leave you unhappy with their company for any reason.

Now they just power spray us with cheap shit that doesn't work, breaks, has instructions written in symbols that you are expected to somehow intuitively understand instead of WORDS, if they come with instructions at all.

Back then Capitalism was criminal, despicable, rotten, a big rip off and everything else, but it is downright apocalyptic.

Niche markets?

Hell no, get it at Walmart or we'll find a way to make sure you can't sell it.

You know there are thousands of bands on Bandcamp much more worthy of your money than that next big album by that next big artist, but yeah I was the same way. If David Bowie or Lou Reed had a new album, I went and bought it right away.

Wouldn't it be nice if little guys were anticipated and celebrated with a new album release? I mean my biggest fans are going to be the same way too, I've recognised that particular dynamic decades ago.

I just question everything, and the older I get the more obvious it becomes that people don't know what the fuck they're doing, what the fuck they want, what the fuck is good for them or bad for them, and they don't care, and I think probably everything we think of as normal or supposed to be that way is actually a monstrous abberation, and harmful to human beings.

Back when Bushshit was running for re-election and he seemed to be gaining momentum I asked my older and wiser AA sponsor…why do people vote for people that will exploit us? It's a mystery why working people would EVER vote for republicans.
