Taking today to relax. Got a great mark on the essay that I finished up this last weekend after having panic attacks for two weeks, so today I'm going to chill out and smoke and watch the trailer park boys christmas special.

I really like the Kirkland (costco) brand coffee. They sell one that is whole-bean, fair-trade, and organic. It is actually roasted by starbucks, but only costs like $13 for a 2lbs bag, which is ridiculously cheap for fair trade coffee. Tastes awesome too.

Just got a call asking me to come into the soup kitchen tomorrow. They have trouble getting volunteers during the summer, so looks like I'll be over there a few days this week.

I really like the work, I think if I didn't have arthritis I'd have been a cook, but I couldn't do that kind of stuff every day. The staff and volunteers are always really friendly, and most of the people who come in to eat are really friendly and seem to really appreciate the meal.

One thing they do that I think is a really good idea is let us sit down and eat with everyone while the meal is being served. It is nice to get to sit down and talk to a different person every time. My wife has been to a soup kitchen in another city with a patient of hers and was really turned off because they would constantly talk to the people about the bible while they were eating... seemed like a bribe to try and get people to listen to them. This place has nothing like that.

A lot of soup kitchens are religious based and biased. Pray with us or don't eat. Kinda a crappy thing to do to those in need.

Tore out the old ceiling where I'm putting in those doors... I can't believe somebody covered up the eves above... The way those joists come together is awesome. What they did was move a large double window that was under a long overhang all the way out to the edge. So the windows rotted away and there was constant leaking from the ceiling. They did a puke job.... They threw it up... :p

I'm using a set of double doors, like French doors but with a center divider and only one door opens. I'll set them back to the original location and there's a stoop out there large enough for a chair and small table under this gorgeous overhang of dark wood. The pad is solid, brick work is good... They basically ruined the area for a few square feet of interior floor space. It's the north side of the house so a perfect place to sit, have an ice tea and be cool during the summer. Also gives me more exits in the house without having to raise the big garage door.

I got these doors before I found the slider that is going in the back studio room, so they are extras I wasn't sure what I was going to do with... They are perfect for this space. Win Win...

I'm also going to be able to do the whole install before ripping out the existing windows which is nice.

I read in the paper the other day that the average teenager now sends more than 4,000 text messages per month. I assume it was an American statistic, but I don't think that Canadians are much different. That is over 130/day... seems insane to me.

Most of the back of this house is glass... The sunroom has 3 sliders out to the backyard, one of those is onto the patio. The studio "B" will have a slider out to a breezeway/garden. Front of the house only has the entry door of solid wood. This gives another set of doors to the front at the other end of the house and put's back the architectural interest/focal point that went away when they moved those windows out.
