The living standards in Britain for many (white) people rose a great in the 50s and 60s because of the immigration... Racist attacks have nothing to do with economic issues, it is entirely a social matter, largely one of education. I for one am actually pretty right wing when it comes to immigration: I don't think we can take much more! We need to reverse the scenario so Britons are the ones emigrating and we could easily do that with increased options and accessibility in education. Kind of ties in with the unemployment issues, there must be a good fix for that. Once again, I ask that people do not post problems or blame stuff or say what annoys them without presenting a solution so that things can move forward in the figurative sense. Not many ideas coming forward here... Would nobody like to see more nature reserves? More parks? More wildlife intergration with human impact? More sustainable systems of housing, agriculture, education, healthcare, etc? Anybody still have any aspiration or any form of hope in this life and this country or shall we just let it collapse then pick up the pieces?
I thought it was obvious that I was being sarcastic I gave my idea for a massive plan in my post in the first page. Before Thatcher, unemployment was seen as a failure of society rather than a personal failure. It's the other side of the coin of individualism, it's very easy to end up on your own with 'noone to blame except yourself' even though you were never actually really offered any choices. I can appreciate the right wing ideology of people being responsible for their own actions and situation, but it isn't realistic. Culture isn't aimed at personal responsibility, you have to fight for jobs, there aren't really any of the benefits of choice at the level of earning your keep where it is important. That is the big problem for me, people aren't choosing not to work, they are choosing not to fight for crappy jobs. It's ridiculous to personalise unemployment when it's about 20% for young people, 1 in 5 people are lazy? even phrased like that it goes beyond dismissing people on the basis of thei outlook I think that immigration is the same thing with regards to why it is a problem. People tend to blame immigrants but that is just poor people looking for work, the problem in the country is citizens exploiting illegal labour, not the fact that people want to work in England. The fact that people want to work in the country is a good thing that should be used for the benefit of everyone I think re parks and nature England is pretty good for that. Every city has a bus station and you can get the bus to some beautful countryside for a couple of quid, you can even walk or bike to a hill everywhere except Manchester and London, both of which have lots of brilliant parks It is one of the things that I love about England, you are always near the countryside unless you are in one of the major cities and the major cities all have amazing parks
