In the past few weeks I've come home from work to find that Lenny The Cat has thrown up, sometimes in multiple places. It appears to be mainly undigested food. Today not only had he thrown up but it appears he lost control of his bowels. He still acts normally, runs around like an idiot at about 8:00 pm, and doesn't appear to have lost any weight. He is strictly an indoor cat. Same food he has always eaten. And his brother, Carl The Cat, is not experiencing any of these symptoms. They eat the same food, out of the same bowl and have used the same litter box since I brought them home at 6 weeks of age. Should I be concerned?
Undigested food could be a hairball issue... They sell a "Hairball Remedy" which is a flavored grease you put on his paw... He will lick it off and usually they like it. I don't think it would hurt to try even if this isn't the issue. Check the package for warnings.
He is a long haired cat and, yeah, hairballs have always been an issue. I will look into this. Thanks.
I would advise at least talking to your vet. Normally cats eat grass to dislodge fur-balls, so without access to a garden they can become lodged in the small intestine. The best rule of thumb for humans and animals is to seek medical advice when a problem shows no signs of improvement after 3 days.
Furballs. My cat just threw up 6 times around my place as well. He does it when he's been licking himself and his fur gets caught in his throat
hairball/ partial obstruction/ gastritis/ and if an older cat may want to consider kidney disease or hyperthyroidism. With the food being undigested probably falls under regurgitation rather than vomiting, but with the recent addition of loss of control of bowels(does that mean diarrhea or incontinence)? if diarrhea suggest gastrointestinal bug may be at paly.... any change in food or treats that you have given in the last week?
Make sure that you take the time to brush him. That stops all the furballs that come out and gross you out.
