    he continued walking along crumbling cliff tops of white chalk through a countryside that "smelt of fresh paint and flower gardens and tall chimneys ; past Kingsgate as he know approached Broadstairs". " Charles Dickens lived in this house" the sign said on a brick house. [I myself had visited many moons ago with family and kids and dog and oh the mother-in-law, and we had sat on the sand beneath the house that Dickens once lived in. I stood at his desk and looked out of the large bowed window and the chopping sea!]

    ........................he continued out of Broadstairs and arrived at Ramsgate. It was already showing the signs of British decay - the Marine bathing pool [public] had been sadly neglected and "lay vandalized full of empty deckchairs and broken glass......."

    [it would seem that as one climbs the social scale; there are attempts to keep things tidier and prettier whilst downwards leads to squalor - this was not always the case even immediately pro- WWII}

    The Fight of Two Wolves Within You
    An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life:

    “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

    “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil–he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

    He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too.”

    The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”

    The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
