Why dont you just go and read my mind!
    Awesome man!

    Were Zep as funny. no.
    Were Zep as imaginative. no.
    Were Zep as origianal. no.
Were Zep doing great rock operas. no.
Sadly they just seem to not change. Ever.

Besides at the only gig they and the who shared according to gig books the who stole the show totally and zep were dubbed as a 'who' imitation band and the amount of concerts where dudes would shout "zep sucks chaps". intresting hatred going here.

    gonna get flamed now(!)

If you don't like Led Zep then you'll go downlike a lead balloon.

Jimmy Page is possibly the finest rock guitarist of all time.

At that show (May 25th, 1969 - Columbia, Maryland), Zeppelin were only a fairly young band.. Meaning that they'd only been together playing 6 or 7 months, whereas The Who were an established worldwide act with a great following..

Pretty unfair to draw too many conclusions from it..

OK, most of you are too young to know the facts, but that's ok, I'll give you a clue.

The simple fact of the matter is that Page and Plant were doing electric versions of Robert Johnson and Fred "Jellyroll" Davis music BEFORE Clapton. They weren't a rock band, they were a, ELECTRIC BLUES band. IOW, Clapton ripped THEM off in the early 70s. They were innovators. They developed a new sound and new equipment was developed just for them that later became industry standard. But it's ok if you don't like them.

There's nothing wrong with having different taste in music, but putting down music that has stood the test of time simply because it's not your cup of tea only serves to make you look like a total tool. I'll be sure and judge you harshly when you show up on a stage and do a poor ripoff of Fallout Boy or whatever banal, lame band is the flavor of the month.

Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" definitely is a classic work that sits atop the pantheon of rock songs that will last forever. Nobody would deny it is a singular work of art. I love that song.

However, I was realizing today, that after listening to nearly an entire album, that they are perhaps the most overrated band of all time. That is to say, they are very talented, but people rate them way past what they deserve. They have 2, maybe 3, standout songs on a good album. People talk as if they're unequalled and I disagree. "Kashmir" is quite nice, so is "Stairway" but a lot of their stuff is, quite frankly, throwaway.

The Rolling Stones have (on their older albums) more good songs per album. The oeuvre of the Stones, Beatles, and of course The Who is much better. I think Zeppelin's oeuvre pales in comparison.

For example, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" has more good songs on it than all of Zeppelin's albums put together, yet many people claim Led is better.I disagree. Also The Who's Tommy or Who's Next also just keep on pouring out good stuff. You can all hate me for this, but I had to say it.

I have no problem with you saying that Zeppelin are not to your tastes etc.. but to call the majority of their output "throwaway", and imply it has no musical value is just, well, uneducated in my view..

What it all comes down to at the end of the day is that everyone is of a differing opinion.. The arguments as to who are "better" than others are purely subjective.

...music CAN'T be overrated...if someone likes it more than you do then youre obviously going to think its overrated. if you dont like it, cool. theres people that do like it and they dont think its overrated. I'm just saying that music is "overrated" for a reason, its becuase there ARE people who like it, you dont have to be one of those people, and thats cool

I love Led Zeppelin also and I can't understand why anyone would call it throwaway music. It's the same thing I find with Pink Floyd, theres a great creative energy behind it that transports you somewhere else. anyone else find this?

It's because you're a Who fan and not a Zeppelin fan... It's all down to personal tastes at the end of the day, which is why this is a moot point.

I think we all need to agree to disagree...

Personally, I think musical snobbery isn't such a bad thing.. At least it's showing of some passion for the music you love...

I'd much rather someone stood up for what they love, and by all means say that "their" band is better than all the rest, if that's what they feel.. It's better than being bland and just merely liking a bit of anything that comes their way. (In my opinion).

I am of the belief that the majority of music lovers are snobbish in some way or another anyway, so...
