Normally, this kind of thing takes at least three years to come on the market, and I'd be surprised if these don't take longer, but twice the brightness is exactly what they've been searching for all this time. Your ordinary laptop has pathetic brightness that just doesn't really cut in broad daylight, and this would double that brightness. TVs are no better, and are only now beginning to approach the kind of brightness levels you want for reproducing significantly more of the colors we can see in the world around us. If the picture is too dark, the colors are impossible to distinguish, but this finding should produce better light bulbs that are twice as efficient as current LEDs and things like a TV remote that can work across a football field.
