This film, based on a novel by Rumaan Alam is apocalyptic with a great cast led by Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Myha'la, and Kevin Bacon. Produced by The Obama's Higher Ground Productions, and Julia Roberts, it was created for Netflix and released last month. You can find it on streaming services or with the use of an Android TV box and scraper. It's a great and thought-provoking story, and I do like it for the subtle way they disparage Elon Musk's Tesla cars along the way. You have to see that scene! The premise is that a New York City couple and their two kids rent a deluxe mansion on Long Island for a getaway retreat. On their first day at the beach an oil tanker grounds itself in front of them causing mass panic amongst the beachgoers. Getting back to the house, they find all TV, Internet and phone services are not working. That night the house's owner and daughter show up looking for sanctuary with a tale of chaos in New York City, which they fled to their country home for safety. Things get worse, and disaster lurks around the corners, leading to some tough decisions and the final realization that America has collapsed into chaos. I think everyone should see this as the stark reality they portray is all too real, and quite believable.
I've seen so many prophetic movies over the years. Movies and Book Adaptations from back in the 60's and 70's have ended up becoming all too real. THX-1138 Fahrenheit 451 Soylent Green ANimal Farm.
Yes, I have seen all those and many more, this one is set in the present time, and is quite believable. It covers many social issues as well, racial, economic, etc. and Kevin Bacon's portrayal as a prepared survivalist is convincing. The scene between him, Mahershala Ali, and Ethan Hawke is amazing!
Julia Roberts portrays a woman definitely on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and pulls it off with amazing strength.
All animals are equal. but some animals are more equal than others. Probably the truest words ever spoken to define communism.
Going to work shortly (7.15am here) but will check it out this evening. Sounds like our kind of film.
The question raised by the movie is how long would it take when power, the internet and all communication is impeded for society to completely break down, and what would it look like. At least the movie gave us hints as to what was going on that the characters in the movie missed.
