That is probably a lazy song. But whenever I hear Paul Robeson sing it, I think of the version he sang at Peekskill and later. "But I keeps laffin' Instead of cryin' I must keep fightin'; Until I'm dyin', And Ol' Man River, He'll just keep rollin' along!" Which is a call to action.
