I tried coconut oil on my hair a few times and it made it way too greasy. I washed my hair three times and it was still gross. When I finally got the greasiness out I did see the benefits, it was soft and shiny, but I don't think it's worth it.
My hair just soaks it up, lol. I use it as conditioner, then rinse, but my hair is rather coarse and tends to be dry so it works good for me.
I really like baby powder in place of dry shampoo. I tend to go through a bottle of dry shampoo quite quickly, and at $12.00 a bottle the cost can really add up.
Ash.... the lady who put the purple streaks in my hair told me to get a shampoo with no Sulfites, Sulfates, Sulfides, Sulfades ((?)) in it. Can't remember which one she said exactly. I looked and looked in the shampoo section of Wally World and finally found something made by L'Oreal. I love the way it makes my hair feel and the streaks didn't seem to wash out. Do you use a special shampoo on your green hair? Also... I forgot to mention that certain meds will build up in your hair, like thyroid meds (which salon people say is the worst)... so that may be an issue with some hair and oil. I don't take any prescription meds but back when I had to take some for a while.. I really noticed a difference in my hair.
Once every month or two if my hair feels extra dirty or like it has buildup nothing else can remove I do use a shampoo. The last one I tried was from lush and was called their big shampoo. I really liked it. It has sea salt in it the scrubs your scalp really well and I liked how silky my hair was afterwards. It also didn't have many damaging chemicals in it (although it does have one sulfate, which I didn't know when I tried it).
sheamoisture is a really great all natural brand. The ingredients are so harmless its probably edible. Its actually traditionally made and marketed for black hair but they make so many different types of shampoo it is easy to find one that will work with any hair type.
I have fairly fine hair, and I'm a sort of greasy human, so I have to wash every other day, at minimum. I use all natural shampoo, and no conditioner, since my hair is usually too moist. If I do condition, it is with things like honey and oatmeal or milk. Once a month or less.
I have very fine dark hair and used to think the same as you. Once you get passed the first greasy hump of going no poo, it isn't an issue. Even for people like us.
I wash erratically, so while I say two times a week, it could be once, it could be three depending on needs of my cranky hair. Once a month I do a deep clean/ clarify wash. Typically, I will scalp wash three or four times before I wash length. (If I get something in my ends, I can wash just the ends in cold water in a sink quite easily. I condition after each wash, and oil as my hair needs. Compromise:dilute your shampoo. There's no reason for lack of washing to impact growth rate. It might impact breakage, so longer length might be possible. Washing has a massage, which brings blood and the nutrients carried there to the follicles. But manipulation also can cause breakage. I know people who tried conditioner only cleaning can get more shedding. Opinions vary from manipulation breaking hair near the scalp to the conditioner clogging follicles, causing fall and thinning. I'm aware of several people who have gone either water or sebum only. I found preening took a long time, and I never managed to get the oils to my dry ends. The oil would disappear about waist level, leaving a good portion oil less. So since I had to use oil on the ends anyway, I didn't feel it was a worthy time investment. Try coconut oil pre shampoo. It soaks in, reduces hygral fatigue in wavy to curly hair, and washes out. For dark hair, add cocoa powder. I've not found a great mix for red, yet, and I'm not a fan of smelling chocolate. But cocoa and hibiscus/cinnamon is likely.
3-4 times in a week. I've noticed that when I rinse my hair with a cool water after washing it remains fresh for a longer time.
I always do this too. Anyways, my scalp's been somewhat itchy from using all kinds of shampoos and products. But I've been using this recently, and I recommend it.
Im a grungy human, i only wash my hair like a couple times a week.. And i only really brush it when i was it. But its always up and i lead a pretty sedentary life..
I wet my hair daily and it gets a good clean when I bath because my head just sweats out, then I run it under cold water etc. I've stopped using shampoo since November, and I only condition now ever 3 days or so. I feel it's much better without the constant washing.
Once every week or two weeks. I have dry hair and psoriasis. So, oil production is at a minimum for me. Of course, now that I have short hair I probably should wash it more, but I can't be bothered. It's not going to make a difference in my appearance. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it I've had short hair since like 2013, and it hasn't really grown. My hair used to grow fast, and my terminal length is around my waistline. I've always had long hair. But, these days it just won't grow. I think it might be because of my declining health. I'm thinking of just going bald or do a skinhead haircut then.
