Dont you think it's kind of pussy to rip someone's throat off? I always hated sparring grapplers. Its like get the fuck off of me and box, find a woman to make love to
pussy to rip someones throat off? nah, thats pretty fucking beastly its pussy to hit someone from behind
Knowing that there are people who can do this type of stuff makes me feel a little queesy. I mean, I think that it is amazing, and the commitment and dedication needed to become proficient is awe-inspiring, but I always start imagining a stupid fight with me ending up dying in agony.
that's more likely to happen with a dsperate dumbass than with someone who had training and confidence.
Lethwei is very primarily kickboxing, not grappling. It's on an as needed basis. I used to hate sparring grapplers too. Especially around here, there are a ton of high school wrestlers, and they'll just love to get on top of ya. Not try for a sub or anything, just roll you on your back and lay there. But the more I get into Jui Jutsu the more flaws I see in grappling styles, and the more I can take advantage of it. When you know what you're doing on the ground it's not as frustrating. I'm still not very good on my back. But it's a martial artists goal to master all elements of combat. Eh, I'm more of a lover. I don't get in street fights really, and I wouldn't crush someones trachea for spilling a drink on me at a bar. I used to have a lot of stupid anger stuff when I was younger. Now I only kill out of spite.
heeheehee I know what you guys mean about grapplers too. All through highschool I only did stand up fighting, and I did well until I went up against ground fighters. Stupid MMA fad. I found that if I wasn't able to hurt them pretty badly before they got me to the ground, I was in big trouble. I've spent the last 3 years really working on my ground fighting and avoidance. It's made a huge difference. Although now, I mostly just teach kids and their parents because I'm too old to fight competitively. So far though, I'm undefeated against opponents who are 12 and younger.
Yeah, the first couple times in MMA sparring, I was just buried under a lot of sweaty wrestler. I'm much now acustomed to kneeing someone who shoots in the face. Right on with the beating up kids boosh. What do you teach?
The short answer is I teach sort of a weird Tae Kwon Do. The kids classes are traditional TKD in that there is a lot of attention paid to artistry, personal development, etc... as well as striking. That's why I like teaching it. I get a sick thrill out of watching a kid go from getting F's in school to B's over the course of a year. The adult classes are only loosely based on TKD though. We do have forms and board breaking and stuff, but we also do a lot of ground fighting, swords/shortstick training, flips/throws, and the fighting is much more self-defense oriented. There's a BJJ school about 100 yards away for cross-training, and we have a guy with an instructor with a Krav Maga background as well. I have a background in Muy Thai (which is pretty much the same as Lethwei, right?), plus, I used to train under Joe Corley's karate system when I was a teenager. We call it TKD, because that brings in the kids, but it's more of an eclectic style really since we try to integrate the best from every instructor's background, and we are more focused on self-defense/street fighting than artistic expression.
TKD really helped my little brother, when they were trying to get my mom to put him on ritalin and stupid shit like that.
yeah, dl is such a huge hulk of a kid that most people just leave him the hell alone. he's the classic mellow-tempered big bear. he's moved on from martial arts to ocean sports. he's really good.
Understandably. I tease TKD a bit, but it was my first martial art, and I really appreciate it. It's very good for kids, and gives 'em a lot of confiedence and discipline. I'd say you have completly the right idea with training kids more in the TKD and the adults more self defense oriented. Although I would personally ideally want to teach my kids in some ground stuff too. Although I'm not the one to instruct at this point. Yeah, Lethwei and Muay Thai are very similar. About as similar as Tang Soo Do and Taw Kwon Do. There are subtle diffferences. Lethwei is steeped in classic rural fighting, where as in the past 20 years Muay Thai has become more of a sport. So there are differences in the guard, and the use of headbutts. Where do you life at Boosh? If I'm ever in town, I'll take a class or two.
My favorite class is our "Tiger Cubs" class. It's a bunch of 3-5 year olds. They are sooooo cute in their little uniforms. With them we mostly work on coordination, self control, avoiding strangers, etc...
