Kind of an odd way to start dreadlocks.. but I think it’ll work

Ok... so 3 months or so ago... I went and got fake hair extensions put in…

They sectioned out my hair… and then added the extentions… I’ve been back ONCE for a ‘maintenance’ that was basically root flipping with a latch hook… That was like 6 weeks in…

Fast forward to today... and I’ve decided to take all the extensions out… NOW… SINCE they’ve been removed... I have about an inch to an inch and a ½ of dreaded hair at the roots… and then about 2 - 3 inches of wispy/paint-brush like textured tips… where the extensions were connected the hair has remained in tact.. some of the ‘dreads’ are more knotty than the rest.. some are more wispy…

Should I just leave it, and let it dred up on it’s own? It basically looks like a rats nest.. as I have a bit of curl and wave to my hair…

Also.. would wearing a wrap or bandana prevent the tips from dreading up??

Let it be. Trust that your hair knows EXACTLY what to do, and since your dreads are still babies, they have some more 'dreading' to do. Some people don't believe in the 'ugly stage', and while they may not be hideous, at this point, they're certainly not cute! lol But be patient, there are more changes to come.
Wearing hats/wraps don't affect your dreads, but its a good way to protect them and to keep you from getting too down about they way they look in the beginning.

Funny enough... I kinda like the rat nest look... Lol its funny to see peoples 'WTF' comments when I take off my wrap lol

 

Bump for any other comments... I think they're going to dread up nicely... they're REALLY going crazytown in the back there... where I sleep on my pillow etc...
