Kim Davis is an elected public servant. Her job is to serve the public within the framework of the US Constitution and the Supreme Court's interpretation of it, period. Her background is irrelevant to her ability to do her job.

she can be ignorant all she wants, but her ignorance is also irrelevant. She is violating the Civil Rights Act and this is illegal, end of story.

Sorry, you're not going to win this one. Selective quoting is a very common, useful online practice, and I'm going to continue using it, as I have for six years.

I don't think the animosity level between social right wingers and social libertarians can get much higher than it already is.

I have not said that Kim Davis does not have a right to her particular beliefs that her religion is inerrant or that gay ppl are disgusting, immoral perverts or whatever her actual bigotry is.

Bigoted opinions are protected by the same 1st Amendment that protects my derision of them and their Buybull, a term which I like because it is my belief that anyone believing in and espousing the hatred contained in that archaic, dreadful book are buying bullshit.

What differentiates me from Kim Davis is that I am not using a government position to force my beliefs onto other ppl - a point that you repeatedly do not seem to grasp. She violated the law by using her position to force her religious beliefs onto ppl coming for mairriage licenses to which they were legally entitled to get. She violated her oath of office on a couple of accounts enumerated in my OP. She refused to abide by the law after being told to do so by a federal judge, hence was put into jail for contempt of court. She also violated tenets of her professed religion by sinning on multiple occasions, (violating the sanctity of marriage 4 times and having bastard children) yet claiming that gay ppl are sinners. She has a HUGE LOG in her eyes and has been throwing stones at others in direct violation of what Jesus said.

I also am put out by the ignorance of what appears to be the majority of Southerners. Notice I did not say ALL. But a sizeable number of them could be seen rallying around Kim Davis, spouting outright lies, which makes them sinners unless they really do believe that shit and are that ignorant of the laws of the United States. Most notable are Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz and Bobby Jindal, currently thinking they are qualified to be POTUS when they are ignorant of the U.S. Constitution.

For the most part what Jesus is attributed as saying in the Gospels, is worthy of immitating, sort of like stuff that is attributed to Siddhartha Gautama. In my spiritual searchings I have explored these texts. But, Christian haters have a nasty habit of picking and choosing hateful passages out of the Old Testament, ignoring the ones inconvenient to them right next to it (Like my tattood, redneck relatives in Mississippi who eat pork & shellfish and wear poly-cotton blend clothing - all sins in Leviticus next to "men lying with men.") And, when you point this out they say "well that's the old testament - we follow the teachings of Jesus" apparently not knowing that most of what they quote from the New Testament was actually attributed to Paul. Which is why I feel every right to call it the Buybull.

 

A war for personal freedom may be the only kind worth fighting.

Without freedom, life is little more than waiting to die.

 

One can only hope - she does not deserve to be in such a position that she has abused. (and pulling down a $80K salary in a poor, backwater state)

However, she cannot be easily fired - it is an elected position. They may start impeachment procedings but you see the mindset of the Christians in that state. She would be elected again because she is considered a local hero by the benighted religionist majority.

Those intelligent ppl in government would likely want her gone. She is an embarrassment to the state of Kentucky in the world view and even to many ppl in the U.S. In fact some of these backwater Southern states have learned what an international world they are in when they find themselves losing business because of their ignorant laws or policies. Large companies do not want to open a facility in a place that discriminates against their gay employees who are often key players in the company.

 

Her personal life hasn't jack-shit to do with this, so stop trying to garner empathy for her.
She violated that couples civil rights, broke the law and failed to uphold the oath she took when accepting position.

An elected official is not an employee . For breaking a law , legal impeachment is proscribed . For serious conflict with
public opinion a recall-election may be initiated - and in the case of an elected county clerk by the voters of that county .

A philosophy professor there at Morehead College thought peace in the community the most important concern .

 

She should be sacked for not doing her job, simple as that! The media has just made this into a huge deal that it didn't need to be.

She's overpaid more than double what all the other county employees make.

She gets paid for her jail days and any amount of days she decides she needs to take off.


Her mother was her predecessor at this post for 38 years. Kim worked under her mother for 24 years.

The only one of six deputy clerks in her office who refused the judges order to sign licenses for gay couples is her 21 year old son.

She's a liar. She promised to "follow the statutes of this office to the letter.”


The earliest the impeachment can take place is January.

Davis earned an annual wage of $51,812 in 2011, along with an additional $11,301 in overtime pay and other compensation.
By comparison, the sheriff’s chief deputy was paid $38,000 and the deputy judge-executive received $36,000 — and neither of those public officials received any overtime pay.

I doubt these county sheriff's deputies are going to want to fight Federal Marshals for her.

As for her religion -

Though Davis was tearful as she testified how she came to Christ in 2011 following the death of her mother-in-law, she appeared straight faced as marshals led her out of the courtroom. When previously asked her beliefs, she has said she is an Apostolic Christian.

after giving it some thought I think pieceofmyheart might have something there with the idea of driving elsewhere for gay couples to get marriage licenses, but only the other way around.
I think every gay couple considering marriage in the state should make a pilgrimage to Rowan county to get their licenses.
I mean flood them daily, it would only be a matter of time before Davis flips out and ends up back in jail......where she belongs.
