Seems to me everyone wants their rights and beliefs respected but do not want to respect others. Also seems if someone does not agree, they are ignorant bigots. When people of all religions, sexual orientation, or whatever would all see that, things may get better.

One thing learned here by me. If you go against the grain(older members) and have a different opinion, watch out. You will get called a troll, inane, bigot and have people assume they know your religious belief and everything else about you.

Gays don't like religious fanatics and religious fanatics don't like gays....and on and on it goes.

Personally I do not care who marries who, and if I lived in that town where Ms Davis lives I would probably not giver her the time of day. Why is anyone else?

It is about or concerning her actions and the ramifications on others.

While everyone has the right to their own beliefs when it interferes with the mandate of your employment it is time to either be replaced or to conform.

Obviously that will happen. Nothing good will come of this for that woman and if people would calm down for a second they could watch it happen.

It's a common occurrence here that people can't just disagree and state their own opinion. Some have to prove your opinion wrong in order for their opinion yo be right. When others can't understand your point of view, it must be wrong, and you must be a troll for standing by it.

If you consider it, all my remarks are based complete on what you have communicated here and I make no assumptions concerning your religious or political beliefs, I'm just going by what you have posted in this thread.
seems as if you are the one making assumptions.

I do think it will happen as she has taken it too far to probably personally back down.

The issue for me is that it has been allowed to get to this point. We would hope that after all this time we would have more acceptance of all people and that someone who holds a public office has been allowed to take it to this point is a statement of how far we still need to go.

When this first came to light she should have been reprimanded and if it continued to happen she should have been terminated. Instead it has become a three ring circus.

Actually you did. You assumed nothing along those lines affected me so that was why I had that position. Then you brought up letting all crimes go and Rosa Parks....go back and read your posts to me. You twisted things a bit from what I said. But then again...isn't that what we do? Read things from our own perspective...and then interpret according to who we are?

I understand her point of view that they should have just left and drove to another county.
But WHY should they have to do that when they are the ones being discriminated against?
To leave to just "avoid her negative energy" simply compounds the problem and further gives Kim confirmation of her position and prolong or exacerbate the situation.
we can all sing kumbaya my lord, be best friends or some shit, but the plain fact of the matter is saying they should have just gone away to avoid her "negative energy" is WRONG, plain and simple.

like I said, by that logic Rosa Parks should have relinquished her seat because look at what a shit storm her not avoiding negative energy started.
Hell black people can now sit anywhere and drink from the same water fountains and use the same bathrooms as white folks.
my god, what a tragic future for us all Rosa Parks brought forth.

Again, it is an issue concerning discrimination and denial of civil rights, so my mention of Rosa Parks is completely in line with this discussion.

I wonder what your attitude would be if it were not involving a gay couple wanting to get married.
would you still hold the same opinion if she refused them because of race?

Not even close to relevant for this situation. Gay people want marriage options for THEMSELVES. Right wingers want it banned for themselves AND FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

They have that right! They can get married! One silly assed woman in one county is being pig headed! So instead of looking at how far this has come and see it as a blessing and her as nothing to concern your life with, it has become a three ring circus.

Noxious Gas, I don't think you and I have the same concept of negative energy. Gays have the right to get married already. Rosa Parks had NO rights. That is the key difference. Ms Davis should be a non issue, ignored, left behind. When you feed into someone's negative energy by butting heads with them instead of rising above them, their energy becomes entwined with yours. In this instance, in my opinion she isn't worth the time or thought. Take a nice country drive, feel the love and go to another county...have lunch...tea....enjoy.

I don't know how many different ways I can say this. She's a public servant, using her position to violate the civil rights of citizens in this country. You don't get to do that. That's it. End of story.

Her religion doesn't matter, neither does negative energy, relaxing drives in the country, the fact that people can go to a different clerk, etc, etc, etc.

And you still haven't answered my question from the last page.

I'm afraid that it's stirred up enough attention that more people here in ky will vote for candidates who will, now more than ever, advertise their christian background, rather than vote for who they feel will be the best candidate for the job.

But when and where do you propose people should take a stand against this type of discrimination if not in the face of the one doing the discrimination?

    Mmmm hmmm

Or from this she will end up a minor celeb, adopted by some church as their spokeperson and on an income 2 to be 10 times what she is getting now

Even the WBC themselves would be a near bankrupt church in the middle of nowhere, no one has ever heard of unless...

Its a bizarre thing, right or wrong, anything even remotely to do with sex, will end up getting more attention than all of the worlds actual problems

I think everybody has made their points very clearly, for now. Time to take a short break and think about something else for a while. We'll soon see what Davis' plans are.

Maybe what we need is a bigotry test that a couple must take before a marriage license can be issued. ;-)

My fantasy is to get a bunch of people and go across the ocean to start a new country where church and state are separated... (...oh wait, we already tried that.) (Now before anyone tries to give me a history lesson----yes I know what the pilgrims really were------but the sarcasm doesn't really work if we stick to the real truth rather than the popular mythohistory).

In the end, all I can say is that this country is still pretty scary. Consider Donald Trump's popularity...

Or maybe allow for an elected official to be immediately removed from office for not performing their lawful duties, and be replaced by the next in line who will.
