Do you ever want to just smash in the screen? I do. With all the flashing and commercials I hate the advertising it really ticks me off the way these companies try to sell you there products. I am a night owl and it is soo irritating when I am sitting there watching my favorite late night anime and in between they show all these comercials for fast food places that are closed for like ten more hours and they repeat every break. I don't even eat at most of these places yet here they are blaring at me. It not just this it is all comercials I hate and wish we could just get rid of they bombard us with there propaganda over and over until it drives you mad! It makes me want to scream escpecailly when all them have some trampy looking women trying to get me to buy makeup. I don't want my little girl growing up thinking this is real, or that these women are norm. Looking around me I see more fat people then ever and I believe it is a result of poor diet, lack of activity and low self esteem the commercial industry is feeding all of this. So please do yourself a favor and find the mute button or just shut it off.It is only going to warp your mind as it has done to the nation and myself.

Few things sicken me for that the never ending spewing of mass-media brainwashing crap that comes out of the idiot box. Honestly I find it pathetic that from 9 to 5 people go a drone themselves at a job only to come home and from 5 to 9 have there minds controlled by the digital False God that is TV. This is where most of the problems with the world come from, there is no escape from the controlling powers, between media, politics, economical and the educational systems,(all working together I might add), they got everyone hook line and sinker. The internet is about the last refuge for those seeking true information, but even it is corrupted by varies tactics used in the dumbing of society as a whole (porn being a very good example). But alas this is the Me generation, pop culture reins supreme, it’s all about the instant gratification, (do what "feels" good), and what better way to achieve that gratification then to repeat all the lies the system feeds us, like a good little sheeple that we are. Anyway I’m with you man I would like to put my fist through the tube on any given day…

i HATE television. if i sit down and turn it on "just to see whats on" im stuck there for the rest of the day. all of the shows are stupid and the commercials are annoying. while im watching tv i feel like my mind is consistently absorbing meaningless information and it gives me a headache.

i feel fortunate enough that i see through t.v. and that im not sucked into it every night while sitting on the couch stuffing my face with potato chips and hostess cupcakes like the rest of america is.
    what a sad world.

ya i agree taht in general tv is a suckface. basically i watch some vh1 when they are showing that "ill-ustrated" show. its a hilirious political cartoon. ya, and i watch vh1 classic because its all old music videos and no real commercials. but we all know the greates songs came before videos so i only watch it maybe an hour every 2-3 weeks... oh and sometimes i tune in to IFC (independant film channel ...i think) because they show cool documentaries and moovies like "the Kids Are Alright" god i love that one. and again, no real commercails. so ya i dont watch a lot of tv and when i do its normally as im drifting off to sleep.

radio though i have on ALL THE TIME. its how i get my news and the classic rock i crave. i love radio very very much... especailly in the shower cause you can sing along!:D

TV? ohhhhhhhhhhhh you mean the VHS screen.

I use my TV to play tapes and watch PBS.

If you want your kids to know that TV is not reality, turning the idiot box off is a good first step. Get them to develop a serious reading habit, and teach them how to amuse themselves. Not to sound like a cranky old geezer, but what ever happened to kids playing outside? Anything you can do to help your kids develop creativity helps too.

And your kids will be exposed to TV through their friends. Once in a while, if there's something the kid really, really, really wants to watch you might watch it with her or him and talk about it.

Theres this new show where they have actors reading from colonial diaries, and they show clips of soldiers and stuff. Man I love that show. I watch alot of Nova too.

It is so refreshing to hear all the replies when this sort of topic comes up. I love it. I had tv until i was 5, and then for about a year when i was 20, and then i promptly shut it off for good. There was only one other girl i went to school with that had no cable and everyone could not FATHOM the reality of not having television. "What to you do?" seemed to be a standard question. Jesus, like life doesn't have enough options to fill in that timeframe when i'm supposed to be drooling at a glowing screen? Read! It is one thousand percent more satisfying and interesting and will actually be beneficial to you! Paint. Draw. Take a walk, play music, talk to someone, find a new fucking hobby! There are definately good programs, most all of PBS is a gift to the idiot box. Too bad we still can't pick and choose channels. It might force some networks to really try and aim for good programming once in awhile, instead of relying on T&A to make people watch shows and taking advantage of peoples insecurities to buy products.

I still love MST3K though. But I can find more episodes online. So yes! Kill your TV!! And your neighbor's TV! And your other neighbor's! Go on a murdering rampage and set everyone free!

Every year when hockey season ends I cancel my cable. It's always so freeing. It makes me spend more time outside playing with my kid. I live underground so I get no signal. The box exists for VHS / DVD only.

If you really hate TV, check out adbusters. They rock! I never do their turn off the tv week, though, because it's right in the middle of the hockey playoffs. I just turn it off for the whole summer!

The website is cool, but you really have to see the mag.

I can't escape TV while living with my parents, but when the time comes to live on my own, I'll get one of those TV type monitors (minus the channel changing things like a regular TV) and a DVD player. Sitting in front of a computer to watch a DVD there would kill my back, I'd need a bed or a comfy chair or something. I get my news from NPR, BBC, or trusted sources on the Internet. "Idiot box"? "corruption box" is more like it and don't I know it since I feel like my second set of parents were Nickelodeon and the Empty V. Whenever my parents aren't around, the TV's always off and I'm always either on the computer or outside enjoying real reality, that thing called life!
