Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake Palmer and The Nice, died at his home in Los Angeles of a gun shot wound. Suicide is suspected. Keith was one of the most legendary keyboard players in rock, he was 71.
A member of one of my favorite bands of all time which is Emerson, Lake and Palmer. More rock stars are dying off one by one which is a huge drag. :'( RIP Keith Emerson
Strange....this song was going through my head all week, and it never had before.....I did not really listen to them that much or know much about them or Keith, but sad news.....Suicide always is..... Your music will live forever.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiHkgXGckT4
He was a virtuoso keyboardist, I will give him that. But overall there are few positive things I can say about the work of ELP. Much of it reeks of the worst of prog-rock excess. Their first album was decent, however. Their performance on the Isle of Wight video was also kinda cool.
They did get over bombastic at times but they pushed the limit. Emerson was a virtuoso keyboardist, Lake has one of the best voices in rock, and Palmer is a fantastic drummer. Seeing them in concert was a real treat. Here is a nice upbeat subtle tune: http://youtu.be/cPZkivm1xhA And this classic Christmas protest song written with Peter Sinfield of King Crimson, recorded with a section by Prokofiev inserted by Emerson, a 30 member chorus, most of the London Philharmonic (about 100) and a fan dancer; resulting in the destruction of a double bass, people crying, and a near riot,...but they got it in one take. The video was filmed in The West Bank and it sneaked in real war footage which the BBC tried to cut. The man at the end was a real Israeli soldier.....beautiful work. http://youtu.be/RXCEdrnaFlY
