Which part are you referring to? The rowdy college drinking and partying? Or the sexual assault allegations? If being a beer guzzling fratboy stereotype back in college is grounds to disqualify someone in a high office for government, then maybe we should hold those same standards to Dubya and Obama who did cocaine. If it's sexual assault, if he's proven guilty for those things, then he should be disqualified.
Sure it is. Haven't you heard about the benefits if our liberal education system? I remember my favorite teacher here defending the value of being taught critical thinking skills. I always wondered how they could manage to get thousands to take to the streets. I'm like man don't these people have jobs. Oh wait.....maybe not. This helps fill in some blanks. Give then better grades for this. Welcome to the decline of America. I'd also not be shocked to learn something is bankrolling these protest. They are too coordinated.
No it's been morphed into a temprement and lying issue. You could do like Booker, admit you're a groper and apologize for it. Then run for president.
Actually Trump makes the nomination. That means the pick is his. The Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation may have had input. Isn't that what a good leader is supposed to do, gather information from concerned parties and make a decision?
This is not it at all, at least for me. NO sexual assaulter should be in any office. They should be behind bars. I have a problem with a man being railroaded because of an alleged assault - one for which a seasoned prosecutor who questioned both the alleged victim and alleged attacker said there was creduible evidence of. I would not care if Kavanaugh were a left wing radical and Ford was a card carrying republican. Its more about decency and the politicization of the nomination/confirmation process and the tactics employed to block the nomination and delay the entire process.
So if Kavanaugh is pushed through does this mean that the senate feels no witnesses offering character comments about Kavanaugh were true or mattered?
I think a better interpretation is he may have made mistakes in his youth (let him who is without that sin cast the first stone) but since then he has been a good citizen. He has been a public servant and has served with distinction. The assault allegations remain just that - allegations. And as I have said repeatedly allegations without corroborating evidence should remain just that - unproven allegations - and should not be allowed to ruin someone's life.
This thread is about Kavanaugh and the Supreme Court. It is about our laws. And I can explain the treatment or mistreatment of immigrants by other countries. If they are denied internationally recognized rights, then that country is in violation of international law. That country could be subject to legal cases in the (((ICC))) and to Sanctions, you know, the ones Trump is always talking about.
Yes, but hopefully those parties are unbiased, and not pushing an agenda. btw, describing trump as a good leader is tantamount to calling me a Mensa member.
Too bad this investigation was totally half assed. I agree. A sexual predator should be behind bars and not at the highest court, but this investigation was a joke, and had a mandate--probabou from the president himself. Justice should be served here, but I don't think that it will be. The agenda is clearly get Kavanaugh on the SCOUTUS at all costs
Yes, that would be a biggie as "mistakes" go, or as Republican congressman Henry Hyde once put it in excusing his own sexual escapades during his 40s, "youthful indiscretions". The problems are: (1) Kavanaugh hasn't repented of his "sin", nor acknowledged it: (2) his angry partisan diatribe and conspiracy theorizing duing the course of denying the incident demonstrated lack of judicial temperament unfitting for SCOTUS; and (3) for the position of Justice of the highest court in the land, a person's character and temperament are exceptionally relevant.
A "seasoned prosecutor"(limited to five minute spurts) said what"??? I don't recall the "seasoned prosecutor" chacterizing the evidence, and I assume your own characterization of her characterization (that the assault was credible) isn't what you meant to say. What are you talking about? As for decency, the behavior of the majority in trying to ram this through after their notorious foot dragging in the Merrick Garland appointment set the stage.
The agenda is to get the pick confirmed. That's the very purpose he was nominated in the first place. While we are discussing agendas lets remember that the agenda on the other side of the aisle from the get go was to block delay and deny the nomination. This was made very clear from the outset. Long before any of the candidates "flaws" were made public. I'm afraid the only investigation results many would be happy with would have been findings that Kavanaugh was a sexual predator. Alas there is no evidence of that has been found. Once it was realized that the sexual predator charges wouldn't stick we've now moved on to much broader character assassination and demonizing the candidate. He drank too much in high school and college, he gets pissed off when people make unfounded accusations against him. What's next? He eats too much fatty food? He bites his fingernails? He has OCD? He does not do any housework?
Never thought I'd ever agree with anything you would ever say. But this will be the first time that I agree with both parts of your message. Congratulations.
The procedural vote on whether or not to go forward to a final vote produced a vote of 51-49. That would set an historic record for narrowness in confirming a Supreme Court Justice. Clarence Thomas was confirmed by a vote of 52-48. If the Kavanaugh supporters lose a supporter on the final vote, it will be 50-50, and Pence will break the tie. Can you imagine what that will do to the Court's legitimacy?
Yeah...remember what we did with Merrick Garland? Stop with the "other side's" agenda and acknowledge it is both side's agenda. You could also say the only investigation results many would be happy with are complete and total exoneration of Kavanaugh. You're also suggesting women are making things up about him just to prevent his confirmation. Not only does it fuel the fire we've been fighting against since we were all born, it's at least as large an accusation as that being levied against Kavanaugh. The FBI also flat out refused to interview people who claimed they could corroborate Ford's claims. They are using a 35 year old calendar as evidence, and have said the investigation is limited. Of course they haven't found anything; they're not actually looking.
