almost certainly. i'd probably do it if there was still the chance of minor injury too. but not if there was danger of death or loss of limbs. weeelll...actually, maybe minor limbs would be acceptable. toes i could cope with. do toes count as limbs? they're extremities really. hmm.

i would like to do it if: danger < losing small limbs

nerthus is a germanic earth goddess. she disappeared somehow in mythology and no one can really explain it! i thought that was pretty cool. she possibly had a sex change and became njord. plus wherever she goes there is peace and parties, so wherever she went i reckon she's having loads of fun. :)

tacitus, roman historian, wrote about her in first century ad:

A general festival takes place, and public rejoicing is heard, whenever the goddess directs her way. No war is thought of; arms are laid aside, and the sword is sheathed. The sweets of peace are known, and then only relished.’

so yeah.. that's why. :) make much sense?

What would you consider to be the most horrific way to die known to mankind?

If you were at the top of a very tall ladder holding a small very sharp knife and a big can of blue paint and you felt the ladder start to topple, but looking down noticed that there was a procession of French children on a school trip walking past underneath, in order to steady yourself would you drop the can of paint which would undoubtedly turn lots of the kids blue and perhaps knock one or two of them out, or would you drop the small very sharp knife, which would have a good chance of missing all the children but which, if it did hit one of them, would almost certainly stick into the top of one of their heads and kill them outright? Third option, would you keep hold of both, thereby being unable to steady yourself, and falling down, ladder, knife, paint and all, into the middle of a busy street below causing a multi-car pileup?

i would have to go for the first option, not because it causes the least deaths (if my calculations are correct) but because of the product of that choice. i would then have lots of blue french children! i could start touring with them like a mini blue man group and make lots and lots of money. :D

Well the obvious question that occurs to me is what on earth were you doing up the ladder in that dangerous condition in the first place? Do you have no respect for health and safety?;)

does a girl have to have a *reason* to be up a ladder with a bucket of blue paint and a small knife now?

maybe i was planning a very messy homicide...

Because we're both strong, adaptable and capable of providing the basis for human civilisation?

Do you think Marxist political philosophy is still relevant, or do you think that its flawed basis in a Lockean (mis)conception of human nature renders it just another utopian 'perfectability of man' thesis which is naive given our more thorough understanding of the role of genetic selection in adaptive behaviour?

same intellectual level, i was thinking.
since when have you provided the basis for human civilisation?

    probably.

i guess sal should answer that really, yes. :p
don't expect too much though, he'll probably just ask his stoney friends. never thinks for himself, that lad.

Would you rather live completely free and wild. But with no technology or anything. Or under a really advanced, but totalitarian civilization?

free and wild without a doubt. it'd be considerably more exciting, and in the long run probably easier.
