Say what you will about Kanye West as a person, or even a rapper for that matter. I could not care less for the man himself or his "celebrity" status, but he is a brilliant producer and has put out some really great music. His albums combine hip hop with pop elements, incorporating a good deal of melody and soul. His latest album, Yeezus, is much more experimental and dare I say abrasive than his previous work, and he has received a lot of flack for it, though I give him props for at least being a mainstream artist who's not afraid to push the boundaries at the expense of commercial success. I will say without shame that I am a fan of the guy's work. His rapping skills are questionable at best, but his output overall is usually of high quality. I rank him among my favorite hip hop producers.
last year at outside lands festival he was booed off stage.... he is showing up again this year august 8 will be interesting to see .... :drummer: :guitarist:
He elicits a strong reaction in people (usually a negative one). He's really just a big troll, but if he can use it to his advantage while pissing people off in the process, then more power to him.
http://youtu.be/JgtZHXEmvFQ The use of the King Crimson samples in the track below is brilliant.... http://youtu.be/MHhTgNgEzKQ
There's lots of praised celebrities out there who are major egotistical assholes in real life. Like Steve Jobs and Tom Hanks. But at least Kanye West is totally wide in the open about his asshole behavior and personality, and doesn't keep a false image.
I personally haven't listened to anything he's recorded, written or produced but I'm ignorant enough to say it fucking sucks.
No, you jackass, a producer is NOT "just a person who puts up money." That is one of the most ignorant things I've heard all day. Kanye actually makes/composes the music you hear on the albums. He mines and arranges the samples, makes the beats, etc. You're thinking of executive producer, which Kanye also is. But he ALSO produces the actual music as well. He is responsible for the creative output of his albums.
I like kanye's music. I dont like him and the media circus surrounding him, but as far as a mainstream hip hop artist he's better than most out there right now
OK....let's look at what you posted. You are confusing a COMPOSER....with a PRODUCER. It is a common mistake now days.....started when people who had absolutely ZERO talent singing or playing an instrument started sampling tracks and noises. And.....VOILA!!! I am der PRUDUCERICHE! Take it from a person who can actual sing and PLAY guitar, keyboards, bass guitar obviously, drums and I am pretty good on a wide range of usually used in Orchestra Percussion Instruments. West should keep heading West....right into the Pacific. TooReal
I always liked DMX even through I am more of a Rock guy. My favorite line from the movie JARHEAD....is when a Platoon of Marines is humping through the sand and a Huey Chopper fly's over with load speakers blaring....The Doors...Break on through to the Other Side. Jake Lewenthal.....one of the Marine's humping the sand dunes in this movie about Desert Storm yells up at the Chopper...."WHAT THE F@CK!!??" "That song is from the Vietnam War!!" 'What? We don't even have our own music for this damn war!!??" In THE INVASION OF iRAQ....the Insurgents in Fallujah were using human shields, cemetery mausoleums and average peoples homes as Human Shields....so smartly our Marine's went around it...took the rest of Iraq and then we came back and Psy-Op's was called in. We brought in these Humvee mounted monster speakers and Horns and we started playing a VERY specific list of songs as M1A2 Abrams Tanks and Self Propelled Howitzers....which even scare ME just looking at them....had surrounded the city in numbers and we had these Psy-Op's Humvee's with these speakers designed for LONG DISTANCE SOUND THROW....at 2 miles distance a person at the edge of the city and even inside as the sound travels and reflects and bounds in between those types of buildings....at 140 to 150 decibels. LOUDER than a fully loaded C-5B taking off!! The song list? Metallica Sad but True Metallica Enter Sandman Judas Priest Screaming for Vengence Judas Priest Another thing Comming ACzDC Hells Bells ACzDC Highway to Hell Rush Tom Sawyer Alice in Chains The Rooster Alice in Chains The Grind Soundgarden Rusty Cage Nirvana Smells like Ten Spirit And there were more. I can tell you right now....an Insurgent...even the most hardcore...hears Sad but True that loud while a U.S. Marine Corps. Mechanized Division is coming towards them....runs!! They run their asses off!!! And then the F-18's and Army Apaches kill them. TooReal
Oh, so you're one of those people that believes a person has to play a guitar or drums to have "real talent" as a musician. As if it doesn't take talent to create music in the studio; sampling, making beats, etc. I would say being a producer takes a lot more skill and technical know how than playing a conventional instrument.
Okay two things. For one... I pretty much agree w what Meli said in regards to Kanye West. And two.... so, too real... you're trying to tell me that my brother- who produces music- not famously or anything-- just pretty local stuff currently--- but regardless... you're trying to tell me when I've seen his room FILLED with equipment and know a bit about what he does...that he isn't actually doing ANYTHING?
