sooooo my dreads are about a month old, i havent really washed them at all (all i have done is get them wet in the shower and shake them out if they were real dusty) and i was wondering what the best options for me and cleaning my dreads are? ive heard of baking soda, mixed with oils, ive heard of lock and twist brand shampoo, ive heard to use hand soap, so please can someone point me in the right direction? any advice or recipies in what to clean my baby dreadies with will be greatly appreciated. one love. rukus.

Washing your hair actually helps with the locking process. What you want is friction. Keeping your hair oil-free by washing it and drying it with a towel will help quite a bit. Did you check the FAQ yet? It has a small section on washing products (It doesn't have any fancy oil mixing recipes though) http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=364273&f=209 Happy journey.
I just use normal shampoo? cheaper the better as long as you wash it out thoroughly. but please whatever you do just wash your hair

thank you all so much! now i have tons of stuff to read through, im so excited to finally grow dreads. i feel like im finally ready to grow them not as a cool hair style like i wanted to when i was a kid, but as a symbol of my dedication to live a healthy lifestyle away from the things i used to do. also, i put some sections of my hair into rubber bands, attempting to make some of my dreads form bigger. is that gonna work? lol or am i getting ahead of myself and the process?
They're not really necessary, if the dreads want to grow together they will, if they don't they won't. I'd take them out, just let your hair do its own thang
