We've been waiting for the "next"generation to get in the work force and politics and get some things changed ever since the 60's and it ain't happened yet. I'm not gonna sit idly by waiting for something that may or may not EVER happen. That's why bigger things aren't happening now, 'cause everybody is waiting for something to happen.

    Charlott---EXACTLY!

one thing that kids of today shouldn't forget ..the radicals and hippies of yesterday did change some things ..some of the freedoms you enjoy today was because of them ...they didn't completely fail

Bush? I have three words: Make It Stop.....

We have every reason to unify and have some kind of an impact, but of course our half-assed media haven't the courage to confront what has been close to a decade of lunacy. If I wanted to live in a carnival, I would have moved to Coney island.....

That said, the Revolution is alive, if you know where to look. But there are even deeper issues with the world today that even a new administration won't be able to fix, so there is no better time than now to stand up and be heard.......

The pendulum swung the other way, which is usually the case.

Turning on, tuning in and dropping out couldn't last forever. People grew up and matured. Problem is, so much of the "good spirit" of the time period went down the drain.

Many turned into yuppies and began to chase the dollar and material things (to the extreme).

Cause and effect, what else is there?

numbers are needed...as in everything...in order for change to happen.......there in lays the problem...since there is not a common ground...as there was in the 60's...there are too many ideas in circulation...with out a main focal point.....when in reality human nature has prevaded the movement...it is a clash of ego's......amass the numbers to be heard......as bullshit as the voting system is in this country....it is still a way to be heard.....the politicians take notice when your petition is full of registered voters...instead of just a list of names...so excersize your right to vote....if nothing more for only to be counted as a voice...if you want people to join you in your attempt..you have to do one thing over all other approaches...that is;"Walk your talk....don't talk your walk"

talks cheap and gets no where...actions speak out loud......

Once the religious, the hunted and weary
Chasing the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope
Like good Christians, some would burn the witches
Later some got slaves to gather riches

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

And once the ties with the crown had been broken
Westward in saddle and wagon it went
And 'til the railroad linked ocean to ocean
Many the lives which had come to an end
While we bullied, stole and bought ourselves a homeland
We began the slaughter of the red man

But still from near and far to seek America
They came by thousands to court the wild
And she just patiently smiled and bore a child
To be their spirit and guiding light

The blue and grey they stomped it
They kicked it just like a dog
    And when the war over
They stuffed it just like a hog

And though the past has it's share of injustice
Kind was the spirit in many a way
But it's protectors and friends have been sleeping
Now it's a monster and will not obey

The spirit was freedom and justice
And it's keepers seem generous and kind
It's leaders were supposed to serve the country
But now they won't pay it no mind
'Cause the people grew fat and got lazy
And now their vote is a meaningless joke
They babble about law and order
But it's all just an echo of what they've been told
Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin'

Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is stranglin' the land
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can't understand
We don't know how to mind our own business
'Cause the whole worlds got to be just like us
Now we are fighting a war over there
    No matter who's the winner
    We can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching

    America where are you now?
Don't you care about your sons and daughters?
Don't you know we need you now
We can't fight alone against the monster!

Those are the lyrics to the song Monster from the album of the same name, by Steppenwolf. They were written in 1969. They could have been written yesterday. One thing I would have to say about them is not that nothing has changed, but rather the same evil presence that was then, is regaining its power and it's voice. One step forward, and now thanks to Bush and his evil Republican neo/con cadre, 36 years back.

Now we are fighting a war over there
    No matter who's the winner
    We can't pay the cost
'Cause there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watching

well said, this generation doesn't know what to stand up against. There are so many important issues to be challenged we cant decide on which one to unite on. We all have our individual issues with the world, it's not like the 60's, we are too focused on our own ideas to get together on one problem and make our voices heard because they get drained out by all the other voices.

Good Golly Molly!, Pirouette! Weren't you a fox back in 1970! (I was too, but something happened since then-- a whole lot of hard, bitter years; but I still have girlfriends in their late 30's.) My grand-uncle married a 26 year-old girl when he was 60 and had two sons-- he's long dead, she's long dead and the son's are dead-- muscular dystrophy.

The hell with the politics! That shit is like bad weather-- it comes and goes.

Pussycats, on the other hand, are eternal-- they never leave. Weep!
