Yup right idea. On my 1st set of dreads, I did NOTHING, and they turned out birds nest, a mess, 1 or 2 actual dreads. 2nd set I took the time to separate them apart. After 1.5 years or so (might grow slower than yours), they were separated and long enough it wasn't as necessary anymore. Nowadays I don't really have to do shit. It's dreaded almost all the way to the scalp.
