Gotta say it's a little tiring hearing the old stand by, "Things are bad here, lets blame the Americans." Sorry, carry on. I have no business in this thread anyway. I wish the US government was this all powerful entity, maybe things wouldn't suck so bad in the States these days.

Which school are you referring to. The one near you?

On the contrary If history is anything to go there will more than likely be an economic and social gain through the future from both asylum seekers and other immigrants.
Many white Australians may well lament the end of the days of there privilege over this country and its resources but times have changed and will continue to do so.

If fiber was so outdated then why would Optus be installing new fiber cable outside the place I live in?

I sensed that the defense issue was an emotive one for you. The military certainly need the proper tools for the job, and not the most expensive, untested or over complicated option on the market.

Those figures were written in both the Telegraph and surprisingly the Herald even though it is a voice for the Laborites, on several days last week. The school was in Granville where we used to live until we moved recently.

because they have to. Telco's can't go out on their own and say stuff you, we'll do it our own way.

I'll green you for that last statement. We buy two 30,000 tonne carriers, with no organic air support and when asked how they will be protected as far as air cover goes, the answer was "oh the air force can do that...."

and lets rejoice Kevin Dudd's latest and greatest.. changing the FBT on company cars....when our own car industry is struggling....

And Pineapple, in case you get the wrong idea, I'm neither a Liberal or Labor or Greens voter, I can't really stand any of them. It is difficult finding a party that can satisfy all our needs...

on the asylum seekers....simple. The majority of Australians don't want them here whether they are black, white or purple. They want people coming here by the correct procedures and not queue jumping which robs the places of "real" refugees. As well we should be reducing or lowering our migrant intake not taking more. Not to mention what this bastardised programme is costing us.

I'd have to agree on the NBN thing, thought that was silly when they first announced it.

There will be some uses for it, but the world will be mostly mobile in 10 years, kind of already is

It's extraordinarily simple, massive surplus before, massive debt after.

Good employment before, is not horrid, but worse now.

while that may well be true Pineapple, would it not be better to have our own independant air support? what if our ships were not even operating in the same theatre as the US at the time? A case in point of the absurdity of government decisions. The UK scrapped their Harrier fleet recently. They offered Australia a virtual gift out of 75 aircraft, half of them; all less than 5 years old at a value less than half their market price and build cost. We turned it down and the US Marines bought all 75 pf them plus spares.

It's actually $16.50. About the only thing it is doing so far is taking jobs from young people. Struggling small businesses don't want to pay a junior that rate without experience when they can hire an experienced person in non skilled industries for a little more. The current government keeps harping on about how robust our economy is, they are still spending borrowed money like it grew on trees and unemployment is rising by 0.2% each month at the moment

So at that rate you would be 100% unemployed in about 42 years?

Lol, doubtful. I mean other countries have worse, Greece, Portugal, Spain even the US. Its a trend like a graph, ups and downs. The problem is they are currently relying on resources (Iron ore, coal etc) to prop them up instead of boosting manufacturing. We have 3 carmakers here, Ford is packing up in 2016, GM may well do so not long after. There is no incentive for them when the Government allows cheaper imports. We cannot sell our cars for example in Korea they add a 40% import tax, so only luxury imports are sold there, that same thing applies in many countries and yet our looney governments of both left and right have allowed 60 different brands of cars to be sold here to the detriment of our own industry. Same goes for just about everything else. I just went through a few of my clothes, everything is imported, mostly from China

This is precisely why I try to get a lot of things second hand, as my money does not go directly to some things I don't support, but sometimes it just can't be helped, although I am trying to get into making my own clothes, but again less money would probably be going to china and what not, but some would still be going to them, wouldn't have a problem with it if the economy were more equal, and they paid their workers liveable wages.

    Yes it is true.

The navy simply does not have the resources and or capability to support and or deploy 75 fixing wing aircraft.

What world do you live in?

I buy almost exclusively from charity shops and the markets. For clothes, if I can't find it, I make it. For food, our family nearly always goes direct to the farmers stalls.

that is because that capability was taken from them in 1982. I live in the real world that wants to see results, not hairy fairy jargon from politicians on both sides that say a lot but don't do anything. We were not offered all 75 aircraft, only 24 of them. BTW, my father is an ex Navy Captain, my mother is still serving with the reserves (Medical) and my oldest Sister is an EW officer with Navy. So I am not speaking through my arse as many politicians and arm chair critics do.

    doubt it.

Most Americans don't realize Australia has any kind of military.

Yes I am joking, I know you guys have a military, I am just not very educated as to how it works exactly. Is it just like ours , or is there differences in how they operate?
