I think the main difference between Christianity and other religions as instead of relying on oneself to try and climb the mountain to attain God, God takes the initiative and comes to the bottom to attain us.
yet Islam might use or quote Jesus (christian figure) Christianity/ Judism have zero influences by Islamic figures. mm??
I've read a bit on various types of differing religions...Those "big three" (Christianity, Judaism, Islam), also known as the Abrahamic religions, tend to be grouped together because their ties with monotheism. As far as Islam is concerned, yes they believe Jesus was one of many prophets...also a main one. "Islamic tradition would later assert that there had been 124,000 such prophets, a symbolic number suggesting infinity." "The Quran mentions only those prophets who were known to the Arabs, but today Muslim scholars argue that had Muhammad known about the Buddhists or the Hindus, the Australian Aborigines or the Native Americans, the Quran would have endorsed their sages too, because all rightly guided religion that submitted wholly to God, refused to worship man-made deities and preached that justice and equality came from the same divine source. Hence Muhammed never asked Jews or Christians to accept Islam, unless they particularly wished to do so, because they had received perfectly valid revelations of their own." So yes, they believe in the same God as I, a Christian, and as Jews...we simply have different means of worship, prayer, practice, tradition, language/translation and cultural background of doing so. -These quotes come from Karen Armstrong's book "Islam: A Short History" http://www.amazon.com/Islam-History...=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1300483084&sr=1-2
Um, fucking duh. Perhaps you've heard of a "timeline"? It's like the "numberline" you used in junior high math, only you add the word "years" after each number.....
The two religions both stemmed from Abraham. Abraham's first son (Ishmael) was illegitimate through a slave woman. Long story short, there was an argument. Which line was the son of god supposed to come from? So, through the line of Ishmael, there was a completely different perspective on God's desires from Isaacs line. Ishmael - Islam Isaac - Christianity Same God, different perspectives and opinions on "Who was the chosen one?"
Get it right, OP. Your joining Christianity & Judaism together is disrespectful. Your thread is about THREE religions, not two. And this thing called Judeo/Christianity makes about as much sense to me as Judeo/Bolshevism ('literally makes me laugh). Other than that, a worthwhile thread. cheers, JKHolman
Lunarverse, in answer to your question - the discussion only includes Christianity, Judaism and Islam is because the OP is ONLY asking about these three religions. If you want a discussion that includes other religions, then you yourself need to go and start a thread to that effect. Why do people like you have to get offended when a religious discussion does not include EVERYONE? And where did the OP ever say anything about Christianity being the "biggest" religion? This section is called Sanctuary for a reason. If you do not like the discussion [for not including every religion], then blow. - JKHolman
You need to read about Islam. For you to refer to Muhammad as a god figure is highly inaccurate to the Muslim faith. Research before you say things. - JKHolman
Papawolf, how about some references on that reincarnation/Christian theory? If true, you could be onto something. - JKHolman
Muslims do not worship any being but, God. Therefore, they have never worshipped Jesus, Muhammad, or anyone other than God Himself. To say otherwise is a sacrilege to Islam. Perhaps you mean they revere Jesus or honor him. That would be a better way to put it. I do know Islam regards Jesus as a prophet, but not the last prophet. That is reserved for Muhammad. As to your Jewish presumption, the Hebrew Bible ends with 2nd Chronicles. For Jews, the Tanakh is the only Bible. - JKHolman
Christ isn't the only one .. there's the Assumption of Mary (August 15) where she is taken up to Heaven, bodily. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assumption_of_Mary
And why would the same God write the New Testament and then write another book that is similar to the Old Testament??
The only reason Christianity is the "biggest" religion is because it has been forced upon most of the world for the past few thousand years. Forced by means of death, war, missions, etc. The only reason Islam is the world's fastest growing religion is because of high rates of birth and in some cases compulsory reproduction.
Islam and Christianity are built on the foundation of Judaism. Judaism basically states that jesus was not the son of Gd because he didn't fill the requirements that GD HIMSELF said were necessary. Invalidating both religions: Christian and Muslim Sorry
