It's been out for a little over a month now , I got deluxe edition with five bonus tracks and I must say I'm very impressed ! the band scored their first top ten release after a forty year career with this one, weighing in at number six on billboard's top 200, congratulations ! Eighteen songs all different from one another covering the entire gamut of metal styles. some tracks are better than others but all are well written, played and sung. I've heard some people complaining about the production value of the album but to my ears it just makes for a rawer more immediate sounding set. others are complaining that halford can't hit the upper registers like he used to ( personally I think he's sandbagging a little and will surprise a lot of people when they hear him cut loose on some of the tracks in a live setting ) my favorite tracks are: halls of valhalla sword of damocles cold blooded metalizer crossfire secrets of the dead and battle cry the rest of the songs aren't bad either but these are the meat of the matter to my ears, can't wait to hear them live ! any other priest fans here ?
Love love judas priest. I saw halford solo twice also. I was like 3rd row and i caught the drumstick. Its on my bookshelf with logo Halford printed on it. Its an entire drumstick that split a little. I didnt know priest had a new cd out. But i have no money for new cds now so im really not looking. I bought a used boxset of priest on ebay cheap. Its the one in black box thats supposed to look like leather and cool studs all around it. I always put on something studded and leather when i see priest live! I saw the defenders of the faith tour. Then i saw them at small club when they had singer replacing halford. Ill check out new songs u mentioned on youtube. Whats one of your fave old classics? Mine is Beyond the realms of death. Theres too many. The boxset also came w one dvd which i havent even watched yet. The set is called Metal Works pretty sure. Sitting on shelf w drumstick. But what i will go to first before set...is all my priest lps! And i think i have like 13 i counted once...
One more thing...whos criticizing rob halford for not hitting the high notes anymore?? No kidding...isnt he like close to 70? I wonder how old he is...but regardless hes the best!!!!
my favorite priest album is stained class but I really enjoy all of them, they've always been my favorite heavy metal band. I have the box set you mentioned as well, it came out in 2004 the show on the DVD is from the mid-south coliseum in Memphis Tennessee it was originally an MTV Saturday night concert, it was recorded on Dec. 12th 1982 and was aired in early '83
This Album is great and I got to see them for it back in the Fall of 2014 at the Hard Rock Casino where they shot the 30 year anniversary concert for the British Steel album.
Yes buddy hearing them LIVE (If you goto a concert) you will hear them IN ANALOG!! (Which will sound much better than flat digital trash!!) I like thier early stuff before 1980 mostly
I think his age adds character to his voice. Can't remember the song but it sounds like he's nearly having a stroke trying to get the high notes out, or strangling a duck. Seems to lend itself to the genre quite well, so no complaints here.
Big Priest fan myself. Goes back to when I was maybe 13. Me and my 16yo neighbor were looking for beer can tossed out on the road- remember when people collected different brands? I ended up with 300+ . Anyway, he found an old cassette tape someone tossed out the window, tape came unraveled and they tossed it I guess. He took it home and we played it, had some cool rock music but didn't recognize it. So one time we found an album in Woolco, Judas Priest-Sad Wings of Destiny. This was about 77, album came out in 76. He saw the name of a song was "Victim of Changes" and said "hey I bet this is it!" Took it back and yes this became our new favorite band. This was in their early days. They weren't popular here yet for a couple more years in America. Saw them in Indy in 81 on "Point of Entry" tour, about 10 rows from the stage at the Convention Center. Good Show! And again in late '82 in Nashville Tenn. when I was in Trade school, on their "Screaming for Vengence" tou. Halford rode his Harley onstage to begin the show. lol
Heavy metal is ought to be made by relatively young people. The old bands lose the energy at some point.
