John Wick Movie Blurb by Shale October 25, 2014 I saw the trailers for this action movie and since I like Keanu Reeves on screen, it was a must see. In my opinion it was good and 86% of the aggregate reviewers agree as well as 87% of audiences. While watching this movie and its fantastic scenes of hand-to-hand, knife, gun and car fighting, I thot it was taken from a grafic novel. It has an element to it like Sin City or Kick Ass but the story was written for this movie by screenwriter Derek Kolstad. The movie starts with an SUV slowly crashing into a concrete wall and John Wick (Reeves) rolling out badly wounded and staggering before falling into a heap. He looks at a video on his fone of his wife Helen (Bridget Moynahan) as he fades out. Then we flash back to how he got there. John's wife had died, leaving him quite morose. Before she died she got him a dog to love in her absence. Except for a really emotional crying scene, John is living in a melancholy, going-thru-the-motions life as only Reeves can do. John & Dog He takes his primo Mustang out for a drive and is getting gas when this bunch of Russian speaking men with tats drive up. One of them, Iosef (Alfie Allen) wants to buy John's car and gets all bent out of shape when John tells him it's not for sale. Punk Wants to Buy John's Car That nite, the dog wakes John up to ppl in his house. They get the jump on him, he gets severely beaten, the house gets trashed and they steal the mustang. Turns out Iosef is the son of Russian mob boss, Viggo Tarasov (Michael Nyqvist) and he takes the car to one of their chop shops where Aureilo (John Leguizamo) recognizes the car as John Wick's and sends them away. Russian Punks with Car in Chop Shop This is where it comes out that John Wick was the top mob assassin until he met a good woman and retired. EVERYONE, including the boss is scared of him. Daddy Pissed with Son And, it doesn't take too much time from here that all the action starts, as John digs out his old tools of the trade and seeks revenge for the intrusion in his life. Just in time, since Viggo knows he's coming and sends a team to take him out. (but you can guess how that goes). Viggo also gives a $2 million contract one of John's old friends in the trade, Marcus (Willem Dafoe) who sets up a sniper position. It is this part of the movie that is most entertaining because the fight scenes are so well choreografed. Director team Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are both stunt doubles and seem to have a feel for these scenes that really shows. (Stahelski was Reeve's stunt double in the Matrix movies), It is also at this point in the movie that I got the sense that it was from a grafic novel because they have a gangster hotel in NYC, The Continental, where the rules are no killing on premises and John Wick is well known by everyone when he checks in. Add to that the very practical cleanup service that can remove a dozen bodies from a building after the mayhem, it all seemed kind of Sin City to me, but very enjoyable because watching such action on screen is so much fun.
Awesome fucking movie. Its brutal, the first 15 minutes are very very sad... but after that its just a major beating. Best Keanu Reeves movie since The Matrix. Favorite scene is when the cop show up to the house... ask if he ok and if he back... and leaves cause of the dead guy on the floor... lol recommended for action junkies.
I thought it started really strong then went on way too long. The beginning was funny, but by the end it was just a bunch of killing that I couldn't laugh at or enjoy in any way
