sheesh, i guess even hippies can be assholes, assholes. now, in the name of limpbizdick~' shut the fuck up ' haha. that's my belly button, by the way!! she's due n-e time now......................................................
Back when John Lennon was alive, it wasn't just fashion. people didn't wear those items of clothing to look like a stereotype. They wore them because they had color, flair, and orginality. Also, they didn't call themselves hippies. That was a name given by the rest of society, who believes they have to fit in somewhere. People have to be grouped and labelled. When people broke off, they didn't rename themselves. I understand a little bit of where you're coming from. Is it more of a fashion statement today? Oh, god of course! I fall into it as well, but it's ok. I really do feel pretty and I'm not getting sucked into buying what everyone else is to look like everyone else. It's not a negative thing to be into a certain kind of fashion. I also feel the need to say, you're wasting a lot of precious time having a nasty attitude over some things that people said on the internet.:H
Well, yeah, and I'm not saying it's a bad thing, either. But it gets to me when you see these threads judging people on how "hippie" people are, when a hippie is more about being yourself and not giving in to the sterotype. And plus you have the people that give it a bad name. In the 70s it was definately a major fashion. Not too sure about the 60s, though. EDIT: To clarify, I'm not saying the entire culture is a fashion. Just the name itself. This is true.
The early Beatles' appearance may seem clean-cut compared to their late 60s look, but their hair was also considered to be shockingly long for the early 60's timeperiod when they were in their "moptop" phase.
You're exactly right. On their path, they did more and more things to experiment and they scared more and more people by showing them that they weren't afraid of being different. In 1967 (I think it was '67) McCartney was asked how many times they'd tripped acid, and he said 4. I think it was honestly more like 40! They were deffinatley on a good path for all of ROCK'N'ROLL!!!
say man i dont know why anyone in there right mind would question john lennon at all, i mean yea he had lots of nice things, who honestly wouldnt if you made that much money, lennon donaited to tons of charitys and put his money to things with good causes and for diffrent protests. of course he spent some money on himself he earned it so why shouldnt he. i agree john lennon was an amazing being and should be respected nopt doubted PeAcE Brothers
Who really gives a shit? He created some good music, he created some under-rated music and a ton of crap. a more intelligent question is would he consider himself a hippie? A seriously doubt he would, though he obviously sympathised with some of the ideals. What am I basing this on? When I was younger I used to have a book of quotes by him and there were pages and pages of him saying "The sixties were great, but the sixties are over, for fuck's sake move on".
I hope you don't mind if I change the subject a little... I'm not a fan of stereotyping or generalizing, but I think we all get the idea when someone uses the term "hippie". So, I was listening to a lot of James Taylor lately, and I don't know much about his biography, but I get the idea that he might have been into the hippie culture. Would anyone like to enlighten me a little about Mr. Taylor? Maybe this should be a new topic, but I always feel weird starting a new thread about something that really isn't that big of a deal
I dunno to be honest, he did have all that stuff, but he wrote imagine and working class hero, while he still ahd it all, maybe that says he was a real hippy.
I wondered up until last week if i was a hippie.I not only decided that i was a hippie, but i also decided that i was the only hippie. There for John Lennon was a sham.In fact me being the only hippie makes the rest of you just a bunch of posers. Now don't get upset. It's far better to be a hippie poser than a redneck poser,at least you're pointed in the right direction. If you do it long enough you all can become almost a hippie, but you'll always be "not the hippie",cause like i said i'm the hippie.peace
Lennon left Britian to move to New York for lower income taxes. Of course he is free to do so. He was only taking care of number one, All kinds of creative people can and will react that way.
I was watching Monday Night Football when Howard Cosell announced that John Lennon had been shot. It sucked.
