I have a friend who's a lawyer, specializing in labor law. He's written some journal articles lately, but has had trouble finding work. Apparently supply is outstripping demand in the legal field. We've discussed the possibility of his working outside the US. Any thoughts about where the best place for him to find work might be? He's really only interested in legal work.
I think he's tried that without much success. He was representing a union at one point, and they seemed to be happy with his work, but I think they decided to negotiate outside of court.
That's one thing. Others he might be able to represent smaller jobs. He should just look at local lawyer firms. Stick with what he is doing at the moment. Even if he isn't being successful. Not everyone will want to have a lawyer.
Hey now, not all lawyers are bad. I mean, representing a union in a labor dispute, is that really sleazy?
I guess if someone hated unions, they probably would think it's "sleazy".... Anyways... The problem I see is not every country has "American Law", so wherever he ends up would take some retraning before getting a job. Doesn't seem he would be any better off financially... maybe worse off.
I think that's true, but I've heard it's often not that hard to make the transition. I guess he'd be happy to find something in the states, but he'd be willing to go other places
I can see where that is a difficult situation. I wish I had some advice for your friend. Good luck to him though--the law market seems over-saturated.
I will have a look around. EDIT: He could look here, but I only typed Labor Law into a search engine. USAJOBS - Search and here SOL Job Opportunities
