Job Corps...how lame...

Which one did you go to? I went to Oconaluftee Job Corps in Cherokee, NC.

I wanted to stay for a while and get a job so I could save up some money, but I caused too much trouble(fights and drugs and whatnot) and they forced me to complete early and leave. Actually had some good times up there though. Did they find you a job like they were supposed to, or did they just send you packing, like they did to me. At least I got to graduate though.

 

I went to Boxelder Job Corps in Nemo, SD.

They also called it Boxelder CCC (Civilian Conservation Center). Hell no they didn't find me a job.......as soon as i was finished in trade i went AWOL and ended up getting a AWOL Termination........kinda sweet tho cause since i was finished in trade i still got all my completion money plus a few back checks that i missed while being AWOL. My final check was like $1500 and some change. Works for me i learned a few new things, got my GED and High School Diploma, plus all the money, and was terminated hahahahaha quite a few people were upset that i still got everything and was terminated.

 

Yeah man, they force-completed me. I still had about 10% of my trade left to complete, but I kept causing trouble and getting into fights, so they didn't let me come back after summer break and just completed me. I got a $1200 check and they didn't find me a job......the fuckers. What's even more fukt up is that I was told I could recieve training to be a pharmacy technician at the Cherokee campus, so I went there, but when I got up there, they didn't have that trade. I was lied to. I am glad I went there though, because that is where I met my fiance. Everything happens for a reason, I guess.

 

Hahaha i know how ya feel.......i went to Boxelder campus cause i was told they had the auto body course, got up there and found out they dropped that one like 5yrs ago......fockers

 

My fiance(Pothead Pixie from this thread) is graduating this coming thursday.

 

right on, congrats Pixie Only reason i went AWOL is because i couldn't get on the graduating list for 2 months.......i was done with trade, GED, and High School diploma, so i would have had to sit up there for 2 months twiddling my thumbs being bored out of my mind. I guess i would have been going through CDP (Career Development Planning) and CPP (Career Planning Period) But i kind of already knew i wasn't going to be using my trade once i was finished......i only took it because it was the fastest trade up there. I now work at a car dealership.......if only they would have still had the auto body course i might have actually used my trade certification.

 

Yeah man. It would suck to be stuck up there doing nothing. That's the reason I started smoking cigarettes and Black & Milds......out of boredom. I actually got the entire campus banned from a Food Lion because I was stealing Black & Milds. I stole about 200 of them every week and sold them for a dollar each. I smoked most of them though, about 25-30 of them everyday and sold what I could. I wanted to get a job and stay up there for a few months so I could save up some money, but like I said, they made me leave.

How long were you there?

 

lets see my admission date was April 12 of last year and i finished/went AWOL on July 27......i have the record for fastest completion of the Business Tech trade up there. So like 3 months.....hell i can't complain. Seemed alot longer at the time tho.

 

I usually got cartons of cig's and sold the packs $5 upfront or $10 on a front. I would usually only smoke 1-2 packs of cigs a week so i was able to sell around 8-9 packs a week and get another carton the next week and do it all over again........made it nice when we had our movie trips and trips to the mall.....tons of extra cash compared to the measley checks you got every 2 wks.

 

Yeah I would've had the record in Business Tech, because I was 80% complete after a month and a half, but after that I just kinda slept all day and drew pictures of Sesame Street characters smoking blunts and drinking 40oz's on Microsoft Paint, and I ended up being there for 5 months; January 17-June 27

 

Yeah man. Newports are like gold at Job Corps. I saw someone front a pack for $20. I also saw one girl pay $50 for ONE BLUNT on front. I bought 40 blunts one week up there for $10 each and smoked them all in four days.

 

nice.......yea i completed around 50-65% in the first month or so after being in trade but then kinda slacked off for the last part of it..........i was turning in more work by myself then the whole class combined. Kinda funny....cause alot of the peeps were actually struggling with it and then they see me flying through it.....hahahah good times.

 

It seems as though the stoners are the smartest in the class. We just slack off alot. hahaha

 

Hahahahaha yeah the newports are like gold but at Boxelder they were way into those Camel Exotic Blends.......seen a girl pay $45 for one tin of those.......freaking insane.......also seen a guy pay $35 for one cig.....not quite as much as the ones you seen but still freakin ridiculous.

 

Some people are just retarded. If I had to pay that much for some cigs, I'd quit. Actually, I wish that's how much cigs cost, so I would quit.

 

I hear ya there.....i may be forced to quit aswell......in SD they just passed a new tobacco tax law that raised every pack $3 and tobacco accesories (cig rollers, papers, etc.) $5. So a pack of camel lights will now be $7-8 per pack compared to the $3-4 that they were.......pretty retarded, but should help me quit.

 

wow my math sucks......damn beer.....i meant $6-7 instead of the $3-4 they usually are.

 

Damn that's job corps prices. lol
