If Jesus were alive today would he have definitely been a hippie. Spreading love for everyone to share. I love it!
generally i try to avoid making assumptions about the character of those i've never met based on hersay (2000 year old hearsay), especially a deity as it seem kinda arrogant. but for the sake of the game we'd have to take into consideration that if Jesus (Yeshua) actually existed he would have been a product of his time, culture and environment and though (since the legends are often based in true life persons and event) he would have been socially innovative it's unlikely he would have been as liberal as we "hippies" like to imagine. seems every culture that adopts Jesus finds something in his story that reflects their own uniqueness. goes to show the Jesus myth is an effective one and why it's been a standard archetypical theme since rise of agricultural man .
myths and legends often have their basis in true events and persons so it's entirely possible that a radical Rabbi named Yeshua existed and made a big enough impression on the folks around him that stories about him, his words and actions, were told and retold and embellished upon over time until he eventually became a deity (the gospels were written 30-70 yrs went after Jesus' purported death. plenty of time for embellishment). the Council of Nicea discarded any writings that didn't portray Jesus as godlike so the deification of Jesus was cemented then. Krishna was a real person, a historically documented tribal chieftain, though it's highly unlikely he twirled a hill on his pinky finger. Paul Bunyun may have been a real person and he may have even had a pet ox named Babe but it's highly unlikely Paul could cut down an entire forest with one swipe of his ax. IMO Yeshua probably existed as a real personage but we'll never know what he really like. it's highly unlikely though that he took a stroll on the Sea of Gallilee.
If anyone knows anyone who truly works to bring peace to others lives, and tries to make a real difference, check this out. Nominate someone who you think would be great! http://www.robinhoodlionhearts.com/
I checked this out. Pretty great actually. I can nominate anyone? Like a friend? I was going to nominate one of my best friends who does a lot with Habitat for Humanity and Green Peace. What does the winner receive?
This just reminded me of my friend. He goes to a catholic school and was given detention because his hair was getting 'too long'. But in all the pictures of jesus and people associated with the church, they had long hair. I just find that kind of stupid.
Also, I bet he dropped a lot of acid, believed in free love, had wild sex orgies with his disciples, and listened to Jimi Hendrix.
JESUS: look, i'm telling you dude, it started raining frogs or something MAN: fuck off Jesus, what nonsense you talking now!? JESUS: ... so you don't want me to talk about the river of blood then, I suppose? MAN: you're a crazy bastard, just pass me a tab JESUS: word.
I totally agree! And the funny thing is a few years back I mentioned it to my conservative friends and I got 5 minutes of total shocked silence and stares...it makes sense to me...clearly not so much to them...
I can see how it makes sense but he really wasn't a hippie. Not that he was a conservative christian instead... Imagine your conservative friends make that statement though, how would you react?
Actually, I've met a lot of hippies who seemed to think they were Jesus, or at least divine, or wise, or something... and it didn't help their case that they were so transparently full of shit. I'm all for mysticism, creativity and original thinking... but when you're basically just a lazy bum refusing to put any effort into anything and then acting like you're sooo awesome because you read/skimmed some Robert Anton Wilson... and you think that other people have so much to learn from you even though you're no more educated, intelligent or morally evolved than anyone else, it's just pretentious. On the other hand, a lot of cult leaders do seem vaguely hippieish so yeah, maybe he was. Hippies do sort of tend to be easy to manipulate.
... just stop it 'Floyd, you big meanie...:coffee: Oh and uhh, Jesus was a guy...in a book...written by... pre-hippies? I dunno... ZW
Was the Hippie subculture even around 2000 years ago? Definitely not as we know it, which means, no Jesus can't have been a Hippie. End of
I've always said that if jesus where around today the far right and Fox News would call him a terrorist commie hippie bastard who should be put to death.
