Today is such a beautiful song.Agreed,Dolly;Marty WITH Grace on backups. That" Pooneil" on the rooftop is pretty raging BTW!!
Yeah, I love Jefferson Airplane! I play White rabbit, Somebody to love and Plastic fantastic lover with my band and I love Crown of creation and Blues from an Airplane. Peace!
Maybe he means the live version... there is a few where gracie sings it! still a wonderful song regardless
grace plays recorder in the beginning of "today" and sings back up. it would be cool to hear the versions you of "today"where she sings leads though....that version on the fulton street collection is cool...where they ask for the lights to be turned down. i love her songs too though like "two heads". what do you think about the "jefferson airplane loves you" compilation boxset? i love the airplane and hot tuna and actually have been blessed with seeing them live and your right jorma is very sexy...even now. what's all this hating on jefferson starship though...i mean red octupus was good but "blows againest the empire" is off the hook...not to mention jerry and phil are on it...."sun fighter" is another great one. they did leave me cold in the 80's though when it became just starship.
grace slick is just amazing second best woman singer in my opinion (first is janis joplin) but to be fair janis only wins by a mm high flying bird amazing song white rabbit is just absolutly brilliant... all the songs really i dont think i dislike one jefferson airplane song there music is just so awesome
yes...grace is awesome and her good buddy janice was....well lets just say there is no other person like her....i love that picture of them together and grace is wearing a girl scout uniform. why even compare the two? i love them both and slightly favor joni mitchell....heh heh heh shanti
I mostly love songs sung by Grace: "Lather", "Triad", "Greasy Heart", but also "Today", "Comin' Back To Me", "Watch Her Ride", and so many others.
Grace Slick is the Godmother of psychedelic rock! I never understood why JA aren't talked about as much as the Dead or the Doors.
My favorite song by them is "We Built This City"... Oooh that's right, that was Jefferson Starship...never mind.
Also check out The Great Society. Is that Grace playing a clarinet on the live long psych intro to White Rabbit ? For variation try the Mono version of Surrealistic Pillow.
Because all people ever talk about is "Somebody to Love" (which I wouldn't even call psychedelic) and "White Rabbit". And in terms of albums, the only one that's talked about is "Surrealistic Pillow". It's sad, because to me "After Bathing at Baxter's" is their magnum opus, and truly represents their full-blown foray into psychedelic rock.
After bathing at baxters is fucking awesome... so is crown of creation (I enjoy all albums, but those are the clear leaders for me).
I wouldn't call JA a psychedelic band as such even tho they had some psych songs. From what I've read Bathing was done by the band as a psych album but psych has a limited appeal. Ironically Rabbit and Somebody to Love weren't even written by JA. They are Great Society songs.
