Jazz - the musician's music.

anyone here like to/can play jazz?

I'm not talking about the non-improvisational Kenny G shit, either.

 

i can

not as good as a "real" jazz person, but for a rock guy im pretty good.

i play drums in the jazz band at school and have for 3 years.....fun stuff

i love jazz!!!!!!!

and i agree it is the musicians music.....it is so much more complicated than a lot of other styles of music out there, but so much fun to play

yeah. ive got the mark levine jazz theory book and his jazz piano book. you learn something new every day. and each time you listen to a CD or watch a DVD of the musicians you come away with so much more than any other type of music.

its amazing that someone like charlie parker can have such a shit of a life, and be so good.

its difficult to be a good musician unless you can dedicate your life to the music. thats very difficult to do these days. you have to have day jobs and if you play rock music you have to worry about your clothes and printing the posters up and getting the artwork sorted for the CD and all kinds of marketing and crap that when it comes down to it you hardly get to work on the music at all

 

yeah that's the thing about jazz.

jazz is all about the music, wheras other types of music are about the image you portray

 

although some of them had an image as well. but it was always just them being themselves. Miles Davis always dressed really cool, and Monk looked like a lunatic!

miles davis is the king..... i love him along with charlie parker, jean krupa and wes montgomery

 

miles davis lost it a bit in the 80s though.
