He's like the guy at a party that's had way too much to drink; kind of funny at first, but more annoying as time drags on.
So he is fun in small doses when he has been drinking....got it....is he always drinking, though? What about when he is sober? Why hate him when he is sober? He's just a nice guy.....
I remember seeing The Phantom Menace as a kid and thinking he was funny, but I recently watched that movie as an adult and I can see why people think he is annoying. I remember there was controversy about the Jar Jar character because he supposedly had a Jamaican accent and so that it was racist because his character was such a buffoon. That never made much sense to me because it didn't sound like he had a Jamaican accent to me.
Kids don't seem to mind Jar Jar, but most adults dislike him. Perhaps what his character is ment to do (lighten up some scenes/add some slapstick humor) is simply done too obvious and frequent without being really original. Most adults have seen his kind of 'funny' in the exact same way in a lot of other movies. When it is done too blatant (looks funny, funny accent, acts goofy) it is hit or miss. With Jar Jar Binks it apparently is usually miss. And this movie had really high expectations.
all of his dialogue seemed to come from song of the south... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meXc2TA7ujI And literally nothing he did or said was funny.
