Even though I haven't watched James Bond films in a long time, I am disappointed that they are scrapping the character and replacing him with a black woman. To me, this would be like replacing Black Panther with a white woman. I like Andrew Tate's breakdown on this whole situation. He is spot on 100%
I'm disappointed every time white guys cry when minority representaion pops up in movies. I've seen one James Bond movie. One. And even I know "James Bond" is a code name and not a person. If Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig can be James Bond, but not a black woman...I'm sorry. You've got some self examination to do. Let the flame war begin.
007 is the codename. James Bond is the name of the character. There are characters with other codenames in the series, wouldn't have any issue with a black woman taking one of those code names. But why can't I just enjoy a well established character icon?
I don't want to speculate, dude. But when the character can be 457 different iterations, and all be accepted as long as those iterations are white men, and be rejected the second the iteration a black woman, I have to wonder.
I did. Bad analogy. Black Panther's race is literally in the character's name. Now, if Bond was Double Oh Saxon, there'd be an argument. Also, Black Panther, to my knowledge, has only been played by one actor. There isn't an established 50 year history of the character being played by actors who all look different from each other.
Well you're horrible at surfing. jk Inside joke. I could care less who plays 007. I never got into those movies. I'd just as soon see a beautiful black woman, though. It's always good when Hollywood tries new things. So much of what they do is so played out. Really, another James Bond movie where a guy is all smooth and has sex with a beautiful woman? Yawn.
Black Panther has been represented in comic books as a black man (as he should be) in comics since 1966. So it's OK to switch white male characters out, but not anyone else? OK then, seems like if it weren't for double standards, you'd have no standards at all. But in the end, I predict the true losers will be the film makers when this bombs at the box office harder than the Paul Fieg Ghostbusters. So it won't make a difference to me.
They aren't equal though. They're different. Our brains, bodies, and personal interests are different. And those differences should be celebrated, not resisted.
Daniel Craig is still playing James Bond in the movie. The actress is playing a character who takes over his 007 codename but is a separate character. I dont see the issue?
Not all guys want to look up to comic book characters as their fictional heroes. 007 is (soon to be was) that character that I think appeals to a lot of more grounded ideal male archetypes, even though the situations he gets himself into are still outlandish. But he's like the character, Father and Son can bond over, you can watch with your friends, video games etc. It's an unimaginative recast as Irminsul said an attempt at a money grab.
