why the disgust, Jeff? You don't beat around the bush anyway, but I am curious why you are so negative, when Epiphany posted a wonderful, loving comment. Do you really dislike the diversity of our modern society? Would you rather we all just kept to our little compartments, and didn't fraternize with the 'different' folk? Seriously, I would like it if you explained it to me.
omg!!!! how shocking! and you're probably going to say you were just kidding..........sure............ lol
well I was told we should celebrate other peoples cultures...... so why not do it with the best of intentions?
My fiance and her friends used to play cowboys and indians when they were kids, the only difference was the indians always won..........lol. Plus ca change, plus ca meme chose. eh, mon Dieu!
It is the ignorance and lack of education relating to other cultures that cause us to become spiteful. It is also the poor judgements and assumptions we make based on some of the negative examples we see when we look at ones heritage. A few people do not define the entire race.
Because I don't feel that the answer lies in the touchy-feely suggestion of "celebrating all cultures." Is that not valid? I think it is. I don't dislike the diversity of our modern society. I do dislike the fact that it complicates the hell out of coexisting with each other, though, because as human beings, we seem prone to not liking that which is not similar to us. You can argue with that til the end of the year but it won't change the reality of it, by the way. Differences cause strife. That is not an argument for stripping away all differences, though. But what I don't like -- what I hate, actually -- is that some of these "diverse cultures" do indeed preach that their adherents must go out and change anyone who is not like them, or die trying, or kill those who won't change. Islam comes to mind. So does Christianity. Now, I'm fine with people belonging to those religions and others (even though I think they are stupid -- the religions or the people, I refuse to specifiy), but NOT if part of being that culture means you're taught that in order to be a good Muslim or good Christian you must not leave others who are not of your faith alone! -Jeffrey
Really? Take the Islamic religion as an example. As I understand it, their founding bible, the Koran, DICTATES to them that they must go out and kill infidels, and spread Islam until it conquers the world. If they don't do that, they're not being good little Muslims, according to the Koran. That doesn't leave much wiggle room for what you were saying about a few bad apples. -Jeffrey
I'm not really sure where you have gotten your information from. I have spoken with a few Egyptian people who are Islamic and I believe they would strongly disagree with the current statement.
no argument, it is not my reality, in my world, differences are crucial for my happiness. they don't cause me strife, though hate can at times. and i dont think they are stupid either. No more than me anyway. you dislike diversity, that is obvious, I cherish it.
