meh. id definitely eat my placenta, though i doubt i would be bothered to encapsulate it, and i doubt eating it strait up would be very appetizing.
it can only be beneficial for you.
ive handled placentas before and i dont think theyre gross at all, just interesting.

edit: i water plants with diluted period blood too sometimes. its a good fertilizer. i dont think id drink it, but thats pretty metal lol.

Ummm no. I didn't eat the placenta either. I did it for my sister who suffered postpartum depression after her first two babies. After much research she decided it would beneficial to go this route rather than take anti-depressants while breastfeeding a newborn (newborns nurse quite frequently).

That's exactly right. Though some people do actually eat it. For instance, if a mother is hemorrhaging after delivery, a piece of placenta under the tongue or even blended into a smoothie right away can keep her from bleeding out. These are the things that were done before there were hospital births and tons of drugs and interventions for this kind of thing.

Actually, they can't. The placenta can rebalance your hormones (which are very wonky after birth). There is no drug that contains a mothers specific hormones.

Just as breastmilk is tailor made for each baby, so is the placenta. And it has benefits that no drug could ever compare to in that respect.

It doesn't come from your vagina, it comes from your uterus and out of your vagina. Will you love you child any less if it comes out of you vagina? It's a tunnel in your body not a friggin sewer.

Yeh really - did dude even read the dread blog?? Yes there was braiding and crocheting and wax. But there was also unbraiding, dewaxing and starting over from sections with a handful of hair wraps at the root to help keep them separate.

I am not arguing over whether or not my dreads are natural. Anyone who knows me knows what I went through and that's that. Anyone else can pay attention and listen or read it and see pics for themselves on my blog

I saw mine two with my past 2 births, it really is amazing. Even though I think it's pretty cool to dehydrate and encapsulate it for the many benefits, I doubt I will do it for myself.

It's not a protein thing, it's tailor made nutrients and hormones that belong to the mother and therefore benefit the mother in a way that nothing else can.

They were sectioned, this twisty braid thing was done, about 4oz of wax and crocheted again before I found this group where I was encouraged to boil out all the wax, take it down and start over. I left the sections though ;)

Actually you're wrong. But that's okay, too :) And it isn't a bloody baby sack. They were pills. Did you even look at the pics?

Good call! Last time I checked there was no benefit to that at all

:) You have a way with words.

So did your sister use this for both children then or just the second time she suffered from PPD? Was it effective?

Yeah they can. Doctors can rebalance hormones no problem. They change hormone amounts in birth control and steroids and anything else that contains hormones to meet individual needs.

Unfortunately YES I did look at the pics, if you remember this is how this discussion all started. It did start out as a bloody sac I don't care what you did to it after it's still fucking disgusting.

and this whole using your period blood for garden.. *ugh* I think I'll stick to WATER

    thx

oh and I think you're wrong with doing this crap. I can't believe people do this.

+ There are MANY mothers who have had children and haven't eatn' part of themselves afterwords and they have been just fine.

and honestly I didn't see any pills.. I saw a bloody sac... a dehydrated sac and a powdered sac. :)

Thx for the info, but I'm well aware. My point was just because its natural..doesn't mean I'm going to do it because it's DISGUSTING

    high five!

i dont see why certain individuals here cant just live and let live. just because you dont like what someone else does or think its gross (especially if it does not effect you or anyone else), is it really necessary to be all confrontational and rude?

The body is an amazing thing, and the placenta has been scientifically proven to be very beneficial to new mommies. Pat, I'd think the science of it would appeal to you.
Whether or not you agree with it, there are good reasons for a new mommy ingesting it, and there's no need to be snippy. I'm not saying everything changes, but becoming a parent is one of the most amazing and traumatic experiences a human can go through, and alot changes. If eating a part of the placenta can keep mommy from going through depression because of hormonal imbalances, I say 'do you want fries with that?'

I never said it wasn't beneficial. I said it was fuckin gross. And unnecessary. There are other ways to be healthy after giving birth
