    map gas works better than propane

    best advice i can give from experience is use sandpaper to get everything clean....then when you think its clean enough clean it some more (inside too)...and dont touch it after cleaning it

    and use flux

    and use the right type of solder

    you need an oxy/ace flame because the guts and stuff is so close together. with butane/propane torch, they are not hot enough directly when something like this is close to parts and narrow junctions.. besides you cant clean that joint enough to get a good bond with propane. only oxy/ace torch would be hot enough. but even then a connection might not mend. hate to say it. u screwed.. for reals .. those shower parts are all standard. you can take that whole back side the shower out .. replace it with new kit, at best two to four solder joints and youre finished .. better than the hassle playing with that single joint that might take you 25hour to fix.. pull those valve sets, cut the feds, reset/ take you way less time..

    We are talking about an eternal afterlife I guess. So our sun or planet's life expectancy wouldn't matter anymore.

    I agree with orison, don't waste your time trying to fix it, just replace the valve assembly.
    BUT before you commit by yanking all that shit out of the wall, check the brand and model of what is in there and verify that you can easily/quickly get a replacement.
    Mohn, Delta and a few others use proprietary fucking parts that are not always standard.
    the shower valve should be standard, it it were sink stuff, then for sure double check.

    what is your hourly rate?
    do you figure that into the cost of your DIY projects?

    you also have to take into consideration the skill level of the person doing the work.
    you could handle it with most likely little problems as you are familiar and skilled with this type of DIY stuff, pens said he isn't.
    I now work in a hardware store and daily have to ascertain the skill/competency level of customers when I suggest stuff or explain how to do stuff.
    some folks can tear it down and rebuild no problem, others can barely work a screwdriver.

    rollings suggestion of pulling the valve core out may solve the issue of messing it up with too much heat.

    I agree...can always install a new one...should at least practice up on the old one

    also...don't they say quick connect stuff that you can attach right to the copper?....those plastic pieces and flex hose?
    the other farm is almost entirely that quick connect stuff

    down=49.04 mbps
    up=5.69 mbps
    ping=30 miliseconds

    but that is with the wife streaming video and playing some game in the other room at the same time, so it's a little slow.
