I don’t if you are responding to my comment or not but I doubt we will ever really know why McCain chose her.

As you say Hillary and Sarah are not similar in any way except that they are both women.

If McCain did pick her just so voters have a woman to vote for, that would be an insult and also there are a lot of disgruntled Hillary voters that he may be hoping pick up by choosing a woman running mate also an insult.

The fact that McCain and the rest of America knew very little about her before the selection would tend to lend credence to her being chosen for those reasons.

I don’t say this to insult Sarah Palin, she very well may be the best qualified of all the candidates but if McCain chose her for the above reasons, it truly is an insult.

Why would this be an insult? Any more than picking Biden would be an insult to old democrats. I welcome the fact that she's not an insider. Was Biden chosen because he was an insider with experience, wouldn't that be an insult to old farts with political connections also.

Was he chosen because he was a male? Was Obama chosen because he was a relatively young handsome black male?

First, it would be an insult to women voters if McCain thought that by just picking a woman this would mean that women would vote for him, because that would mean he believes that women don't care what the issues are as long as a woman is running they'll vote for her. This to me seems insulting to women.

Second, It would be insulting to Hillary supporters if McCain picked Palin just get them to jump ship and vote for him because she is a woman. That would mean that he believes that Hillary supporters don't care about the issues and will vote for any woman. This seems insulting to Hillary supporters.

As I said before, the fact that McCain and the rest of America knew very little about her before the selection would tend to lend credence to her being chosen for these reasons.

Then I added; I don’t say this to insult Sarah Palin, she very well may be the best qualified of all the candidates but if McCain chose her for the above reasons, it truly is an insult.

As for why Obama and Biden are not insulting. Obama won the primaries, he was not picked or selected as was Palin. And Biden was himself a candidate for president this year and thus his views are well known and his selection seemed to be an attempt to strengthen the ticket.

Exactly, this is nothing more than a drowning mans last grasp at a life preserver. If Obama had picked Hillary, the Gerital General would have picked that twit Lieberman..since they are a matched pair of idiots....What I find funny about this pick...is it shoots holes all through the Republician philosophy of keeping the family unit strong.....personally I think a woman with a new-born down syndomn would be more devoted to taking care of her child....than being used as a "token" to bail out a lost cause campaign.....with the time and envolvement needed to raise a special needs child.....just what kind of attention can be paid to a special needs country......unless she is just going to pass the buck onto her family to deal with the family affairs.....just another Republician trait showing through...passing the buck
John McCain...even with his superficial attempt at popularity still comes up as John McCan't.....Bush clones we don't need...if the people of this country are ever going to take back the America which is supposed to be ours
I am neither a Democrat or a Republician......I am a realist...and my eyes are open

It looks like Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant. She's not married though. All of this is explained here:
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080901/pl_nm/usa_politics_palin_dc

I don't know how much this will hurt John McCain with the Christian conservatives he tried to court by choosing Mrs. Palin as his running mate, but I do not see how it can help.

This makes Paulin look bad as the mother of a teenage girl. It makes McCain look bad for not knowing about this in advance. McCain claims he did know. Yeah, sure! Even Bill and Hillary were able to keep their daughter from getting pregnant.

Am I gloating? Yeah, sort of.

she came out roaring and fighting. that counts with a lot of people, especially many of us UTTERLY DISGUSTED with the washington politics as usual crowd. a lack fo experience may not work much against her, considering that when she DID get started, she came out swinging. hopefully people look further than that.

James Dobson, who is in charge of Focus on the Family, has endorsed John McCain, because he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate. McCain abandoned his first wife to marry a much younger, rich heiress. If Palin had focused on her own family her daughter would not be pregnant. When Newt Gingrich was condemning President Clinton because of the Monica Lewinsky matter, Gingrich was himself having an adulterous affair.

I am sorry, but I cannot help gloating. The religious right claims the right to tell others how to live. They should follow their own advice. Instead of telling us how to live, they should show us.

They should also read The Gospel of St. Luke, 4:23: "Physician, heal thyself." ;)

What I have read tells me that teenage sexual behavior increased when Ronald Reagan was president, and decreased when Bill Clinton was president.

Chelsea looks too much like her mom to get fucked and knocked up. Bristol on the other hand, is the daughter of a beauty queen.

Before you give an adulterer too much credit, take into consideration the idea that there may not be a guy that wants to fuck the Grinch.

Why don't we attack the males in this election based on their appearances? Why are women held to some sort of attractive scale? Why is Lieberman seen as reiable? He's not the most attractive boat in the harbor? And he's not even reliable as a party member.

    1. the media is run by men, sucks, but true
    2. because no one needs to attack their looks, if there is a significant difference, it counts against them, HEAVILY anyway, JFK v. Nixon folks.

i've heard alot of attacks on the men in the election race that are directed at their appearance. mccain gets alot of 'old man' stuff (and so does biden), and obama gets alot of 'color' and 'big ears' stuff. people in this country are very focused on appearance in general. it's a very superficial society. i think palin comes under a particularly vociferous attack because she posed for playboy, participated in beauty pageants and there's some doubt as to whether she would ever have been nominated if not for her looks.
