He's not going to do a show on a Christian boot camp unless they actually find abuse. They may be completely insane, but they aren't going to abuse and torture a bunch of teenagers that will turn them in the instant they get out. It's as simple as that. Blame the parents for sending them there, blame the camp for being homophobic and out of touch with society, but don't expect a fucking prime time special on it. That's the way the majority of America is.
its emotionally abusive theyll do an "investigative report" or some shit if they really want to do a show about it im sure others have contacted him already. i heard that people contacted oprah too.
you haven't seen the marginal amount of badness that dateline can spin into cultural outrage have you?
Welcome to Christianity and the thought process of mainstream world. I might call the camp, though. It might be fun to harass them.
hmm :H im sure a hell of a lot of people have contacted abc and nbc already :H one more letter wont hurt
dateline@msnbcnews.com or some shit like that..... go to nbc's monster website, look for contact info for anchors (cynthia vargas and stone phillips, you're screwed w\ stossel)
There's no way in hell oprah will do this. You think her producers are gonna let her do a show that will probably offend half of her audience? Another show, maybe...
try contacting NEWS PRODUCERS too those are magical words NEWS PRODUCERS that is the man with the power behind the throne.... anchors may not want to do a story, but there is say there....
how the hell do i find the contact info for news producers i mean, so far its been almost impossible to even find the correct contact information to suggest a story to the whole show... thing... im much better with words usually :H
dig, find credits, find the person, people have paper trails, the higher profile the bigger the trail, in their circles news producers are big, you van probably find an office number fi you dig hard enough I'm not helping for a reason.....
haha. rules against masturbation. it doesn't surprise me, i've been to a summercamp with rules like no christian music and stuff.
alright, ill start writing them now. ill try not to make it long, as im sure they get hundreds of messages weekly if not daily
ok, people. this is my letter to Dateline. im going to read it over once more for mistakes before i send it I am writing to suggest a possible story for those of you working at NBC to feature on Dateline. Over the past month, people world wide have been learning of "ex-gay" programs for the first time because of one homosexual 16 year old boy's posts in his Myspace.com blog (you can read 'Zach's" blog by clicking on the following link: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=7428306&Mytoken=20050626191436ML). Zach posted in his blog on May 29th that he had recently told his parents he was homosexual. They responded negatively and informed their son that they would be sending him to an "ex-gay" program called Love In Action in Memphis, TN, not too far away from their home in Bartlett, TN (you can view Love In Action's website by clicking on the following link: http://www.loveinaction.org/default2.aspx?pid=61). "Ex-gay" programs work with homosexual teens and adults to help "cure" them of their homosexuality. They "teach" their program participants that homosexuality is wrong (as it "goes against God") and work to make them heterosexual. In many people's opinions, this can cause psychological damage and even cause program participants to become depressed and have thoughts of suicide. This belief is supported by Zach's words in his June 4th posting, in which he writes "I can't take this... noone can... not really, this kind of thing tears you apart emotionally. To introduce THIS subject... I'm not a suicidal person... really I'm not.. I think it's stupid - really. But.. I can't help it, no im not going to commit suicide, all I can think about is killing my mother and myself. It's so horrible. This is what it's doing to me... " These programs tend to have high fees, often costing the program participant or the participant's parents thousands of dollars. Even worse is that out of all the staff members who work with the participants of the Love In Action program, only one is a certified counselor. While attending such programs, teens are to follow extremely strict rules. Some of Love In Action's rules are as follows (the rest of the rules can be read in Zach's May 30th post): No hugging or physical touch between clients. Brief handshakes or a brief affirmative hand on a shoulder is allowed (exception is when observed by therapeutic accountability). Absolutely no journaling or keeping a diary outside of the MI process unless directed or approved by staff. Clients may have no contact with anyone who has left the program prior to graduating without the blessing of the staff to do so. Clients may address off-limit persons they inadvertently encounter with a polite "hello" only. The following are some of the rules for the parents of program participants (also telling the parents what not to allow): No discussing therapeutic issues at home. Keep conversations positive. Clients must gain permission through C.O.C. to make or receive phone calls from friends and family members outside the program. No television viewing, going to movies, or reading/watching/listening to secular media of any kind, anywhere within the client¹s and the parent¹s/guardian¹s control. This includes listening to classical or instrumental music that is not expressly Christian (Beethoven, Bach, etc. are not considered Christian). The only exception to the media policy is the weekly movie. At the time I am writing this, Zach's blog has received 1,931 comments from outraged people world wide, and Zach is still in the program.. His story has been featured in several news articles and on gay rights websites. Some news articles can be found at the following links, all confirming that Zach is indeed a real person: http://www.sovo.com/2005/6-24/news/national/blog.cfm http://www.washblade.com/2005/6-24/view/editorial/lockup.cfm http://www.newyorkblade.com/2005/6-24/news/national/blogg.cfm Protests have been taking place in TN against Love In Action and TN officials have recently started investigating Love In Action due to suspision of child abuse. "Ex-gay" programs are a huge problem. With hundreds of "ex-gay" facilities in the United States and Canada, they have the potential to be and have already been detrimental to hundreds of program participants' mental health. Visit http://www.exodus-international.org/ministry.shtml to see just how many "ex-gay" facilities there are in the United States and Canada. I (along with thousands of others) am hoping that those of you at Dateline are, at the very least, considering informing the public about "ex-gay" programs with your powerful show. Sincerely, Shelly <last name>
