Occasionally sometimes one of my locs will have a ball of hair hanging off the end by only a few strands. I've never pulled them off or anything, but what does this mean? Does it mean my hair's not doing well?
I'm not sure. Honestly it sounds a lot like the hair balls I sometimes get from wearing a wooly hat a lot. I think it's just the hair you would normally loose over a period 'balling up' rather than just dropping out. I can't think of anything else it could be.
I'd say very normal. The hair at the ends of your dreads isn't attached to your head anymore obviously, so it's not falling out.
I think loose hair and small mats of hair tend to eventually come out of your locks because gravity and other things are tugging on them all day and they are no longer connected to your scalp and not sufficiently knotted into your lock. I always pull them out. edit- don't tug at it if it doesn't want to go or anything, but if you pinch it slightly and pull gently ans it slides right out there you go if not wait for it to untangle or retangle a bit more
Yup, that shit will happen. I started with more whispy tips, then they blunted off, then some of then started droppin balls like what you're talking about, and now most of 'em are whispy again. It's just what happens because hair is oldest and thinnest at the ends.
It's just the way your locks mature. They're bumpy and uneven for awhile and that's the way they even out. The balls are just dead hair take them out.
