So, I was recently diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency and it's just hard to believe that all the crap I'm going through is just because of that.

For the past few months I've been so tired that I could sleep for a whole day, if I really want to. I'm sore. It feels like how you feel when you're about to get the flu or a cold, that overall body ache. It does focus on my ribs (a lot), neck, my upper back, back of arms, knees, back of thighs, but it's overall soreness. I sometime (more than usual, that's why I'm mentioning it) suffer from a sore throat, so I sound hoarse often these days. Sometimes I suffer from stomach upset (more than usual, again), so I'm not eating as much. I eat everyday (which I know that's a good sign), but it has decreased. And I'm cold, so cold, despite the fact that it's warm here where I live.

I just want the vitamin D pills I got prescribed to work already.

Also, any remedies to treat any, if not all those things I talked about above?

Get at least 15 minutes of sun everyday; even in Winter.

I don't know about all your symptoms but a friend was diagnosed with Vit D def and it was causing him to have Vertigo.

Yea, I read that as soon as I got diagnosed. Just wanted a second opinion because I've been taking the medication for a few months now and I feel exactly the same. Also, I want remedies. Maybe get knocked out by a hatchet or something. You know, the usual.

Honestly I would seek medical advice from people who are qualified but it could be alot of things. Take the vitamin D then see what symptoms remain. Get a whole checkup, a complete blood test etc.

Eat a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, proteins, whole grains and GOOD FATS (very important) and excercise. Get enough good fat in your diet too because vitamin D needs fat to work properly.

A little sun exposure can go a long way too in boosting vitamin D but too much will damage the skin leading to wrinkles, premature ageing and skin cancer.

MODERATION is whats important with everything. We need to regain a natural equilibrium (many of us anyways)

Just be careful because some doctors will give you xanax or klonopin and those pills are the devil.

Its amazing what getting out in nature can do for the body mind and spirit and eating foods nature intended us to eat like eggs, butter, leafy greens and olive oil just to name a few.

That does not sound fun, the vertigo thing, that is. It's a weird thing to have, this viitamin D deficiency. I wouldn't be surprise if I'm dead and I just don't know it. And yea, I've been trying to get as much sun as I can. The climate here hides the sun sometimes. Thanks for the reply.

if you don't spend a lot of time outdoors or eat a healthy diet its very likely you have a vitamin d deficiency. Natural sources are the best way to get vitamin d. Spend time outdoors and eat a healthy diet. Fatty fishes like salmon at rich in vitamin d. I think as far as vegetables, leafy greens are the richest source.

also, exercise is great for aches and pains. Particularly gentle forms such as yoga.

edit: Nevermind I looked it up and it looks like leafy greens are not a great source of vitamin d, but they are rich in other vitamins you need.

The thing is I can't eat a balanced diet because of the stomach upset. It's hard eating these days. I just feel so sick to my stomach. I know I'm making the vitamin D thing worse because I'm not eating, but how can I eat if the vitamin D thing is doing something to my stomach? But, I do try. I mastered up eating an apple today. But, other than that... i just drank water and some orange juice.

Don't know what that is. I've heard of it, but never met anyone who personally has it or what it entails. I'll look it up.

Make sure to tell the doctor all this. You are probably deficient in alot of things if you don't eat much. If you get a better checkup (maybe try a different dr.) that is the only way to know what else could be the problem.

If digestion issues are the main thing they might put you on an elimination diet to identify food allergies or they might be able to help you figure out what you should and shouldn't be eating.

It is very important to get protein, fats and carbohydrates so try some more variety and probably a multivitamin would be a good idea but you should really go to another doctor or a nutritionist as soon as possible because they can help you more than anyone online.

Be well and please keep us posted :)

You should tell the doctor that you are not getting better.

Just prescribing vitamin D with no follow up makes me wonder if perhaps your doctor is doing a half-assed job.

Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture could work wonders for you. It can be expensive though. A teaching clinic might be ideal unless money is no object.

A diet of lightly cooked, freshly prepared (from fresh, dried, or frozen raw ingredients) foods served warm might help. Also, only drinking warm or hot water (water that you heat up, not from the hot water tap).

Have you always been like this, or has there been a precipitating factor?

There is more to say about this, but more info would be helpful.

The problem with vitamin D which is prescribed is that it's the wrong kind to be taking since it can do more harm than good. Prescribed vitamin D is usually D2 (the synthetic version of the vitamin) as opposed to D3, which is the natural, most bioavailable form. You would have been better off going to a store which sells vitamins and buying 10,000IU of D3 WITHOUT a prescription.

Your symptoms also reflect low thyroid function, especially with regard to feeling cold and tired all the time. Not saying that is the case, but it could be.

I was thinking of talking to her about seeing a nutritionist because I, too think this all has to do with my eating patterns (or better yet, lack of). I'm glad it doesn't sound like a totally stupid idea. I thought I was going to sound like one of those patients that thinks they know better. I also was considering taking that test, ALCAT. But, I read that it's a pointless test to take because you will be allergic to everything, to the point you will be living an unrealistic and unhealthy standard of eating, because all foods can be as dangerous as they can be as healthy. It's all about moderation. Basically. that the test is a fab for individuals who are into green eating. I don't know if that's true or not, but that's just what I read. By the way, I wasn't a green eater before I got sick, but I wasn't particularly an unhealthy eater. Just think of a female's eating habits that are in their 20s, that's pretty much what I was. By the way, I don't drink.

Do you get out in the sun much? Try and experiment, if you can, where you are.....lay or sit out there for half and hour and see if you feel better.

Besides a multivitamin and vitamin D, is there any other vitamins I should be taking?
