that's because the majority dont do it for religious beliefs...there *is* a difference between doing it for religious reasons and doing it for spiritual reasons... religion is a hot topic...it's started wars, ended wars, fed the hungry, and broken the rich...i can completely understand that people who dread for religious reasons would be upset that others are doing it for fashion, or doing it in a way that is "unnatural" which goes against their beliefs...however i maintain that their angst in the situation, while understandable, is irrational and unjust
Eeeek! Heres to hoping that doesn't happen then! Saying that I've never seen a group of Rastas i don't think. Plus what is the collective word for that? A flock?
I do take the matter seriously, I just don't see the need for worrying about another persons personal opinion of how locks should be, I have my locks, im happy with then. what else do i need. certainly not to worry about what some one else Thinks of my locks...or locks in general. As for never being able to put an opinion out of your mind, guess i don't have that problem. peace.
Oh golly it is just hair. Now for some folks that is spiritual/religious. However if you are say...atheists like me. What to do then? I cant live my life worrying about how I am offending the kazillions of religions that I dont practice in my every day life...and in religions that I don't even believe in to begin with. I would have to lock myself in my house!!!!
The adjective personal is attached to the word opinion for a reason. When initially convincing folks start pushing their personal opinions as truth on people who don't know very much about dreadlocks it becomes a problem.
i guess it all boils down to this: no matter what you do, who you are, what you look like, YOU WILL ALWAYS OFFEND SOMEONE! there's no escaping it...
I think the difference is i know (most of the time) how i would offend them and how to avoid doing it. I wouldn't run into a church, naked, killing virgins as i went for example... But i just didn't understand either side of the argument. & i hate being knowing ignorant.
many religions and spiritualities besides rasta dread buddhists dread for different reasonses then christians or jews but the thing is they all have respect for those who dread for spiritual rwasons and they all roughly follow the same priniciples, no metal should touch the hair or break the hair they should live a life free of cruelty. including in theyre diets in most cases looks are the absolute last concideration..freredom from vanitry..freedom from caring about looks and yes the lessons of patience and understanding are the goals backcombing is 1 thing, thats looked down on becaue it uses a metal comb directly against the commandments not to.. also the lessons the dreads haveto teach arent learned so easily patience being 1 key one, and freedom from vanity hindiu rasta muslim and other cultures many choose to always keep theyre dreads covered, because its notabout looks at all but deeper things some cultures you will never ever see theyre dreads uncovered because they are not meant for the eyes of man. 1 of my freinds with the most anmazing dreads wears his inside his clothes for just that reason spooky knows him as well and probably has never seen his dreads ever even though hes a freind of herr family for years the devides not so much spiritual/fashion but it cfomes from the disrespect of those with purely fashion dreads that give norespect at all to those who dread for spiritual reasoms..think about it, they have been dreading dsince the beginning of time, shamansm babas all sorts of spiritual leaders and alonmg come alotta kids who decide to dread..which is fine but they not only reject any spiritual connections but constantly disrespect thoswe who have them. every dread u meet whos got a spiritual connection will respect you if you respect them but look around here and see all the disrespect..and in that you will understand the devide
The only disrespect I see is people justifiably disrespecting you. That and you disrespecting other people. You really do see yourself as a dreadlock cult guru don't you?
do you seriously believe that those who took the backcombing/etc route have no respect for those with natural dreads, or a spiritual reason for them? youre so full of shit. you bitch about respect, then shit all over other dreadheads just because theyre emo, goth, metalhead, or have dreads because they like the looks of them. nobody owns the dreadlock hairstyle, least of all you. you dont get to pass judgment on others just because they have locks for personal reasons that differ from yours. you know who else doesnt own dreads? religions. then why do you live on a dreadlock forum?
