Is There Any Room For The Christian God In Modern Science?

Discussion in 'Science and Technology' started by neonspectraltoast, Jun 12, 2015.

  1. I would say no. There are too many contradictions in the Bible for the Biblical God to be feasible logically/scientifically.

I recently watched the Bill Nye/ Ken Ham debate, discussion this very subject.
I think it has insight into your answer.

He is a literary figure, an area that science does not really have much to say about.

Is there room in science for Ishmael from Moby Dick? Same question.

a scientist might make a book report

A question that science may ask is why does or how can language convey meaning.

We can theorize that the words we use emerge from experiential conjugation. That is why they can be re-cognized.

Vowel is primal utterance, consonant provides taste.

Of course. Maybe not for the majority of scientists but what kind of scientists would they be if they would decide for everyone else that the view of God (in this case the christian one) of those who has that view has no room AT ALL in science.

There is room for everything in science. By saying there is room for the christian god in science it is not ment it should be a centerpoint in science, or it should be part of every scientist's mindset or something extreme. It simply says there is room for every concept. Even if it would be only one scientist who has room for the christian God, or one scientific field who would focus on researching this abstract concept it is evident there is some room for it. People who say no are probably thinking of some extreme consequences of accepting there is indeed any room for such a thing as a god in science. But it does not have to affect science in general or any scientist who are inclined to think otherwise.

  8. I suppose you're right. Scientifically you can study anything. Or can you? Is there a way to know for sure that you're studying something completely objectively and passively, and not with some ulterior motive of proving or disproving it? I suppose a study to see what exactly makes Christianity engaging to so many people. So Christianity would be a part of science in the same way that a rock is a part of science: because it has been scrutinized by scientists.

Don't you have to suspend your disbelief an insane amount to believe in the Christian God, though? It seems too specific to me, for a concept that can't really be made that specific. To think of God and just automatically think of Jesus seems like a total distraction from God to me. But to some people it is what gives them an inner glimpse into God's world. A world full of murder, mystery, and agony. And triumph!

...to me it just doesn't sound reasonable though. On God's behalf. God screwed this world up so bad that some dude had to be nailed to two planks of wood? GOD I hope God isn't that bumbling.
