most of us have already given our opinion. As i said in mine, i think its a cowardly act for the most part. i didnt go in depth though. Sure, there might be shades of grey..

    None, in my opinion.
The act itself is niether selfish or selfless, brave or cowardly. It's an act of desperation.
The outside consequence is viewed differently in whoever is affected's perception.
It really depends on situation and circumstances, the way you are talking about it is putting every case of suicide into the same category, labelling each 'experience' as exactly the same but it isnt, like every person and every situation it is always different.

Everyone was completely sucky to the only person I've ever known personally who committed suicide. If it bothered anyone's conscience or caused grief to any of them, I'm glad.

Suicide can be an act of happiness. How is that? Because certain of us realize there is a life beyond death that one should be in a hurry to cross over to. Knowing life beyond death is wonderful make me want to commit suicide. I wont care who my suicide effects because it is my life to do with it as I please.

The first time i tried to commit suicide I was happy, not in desperation. But the 2nd and 3rd attempt I will admit I was feeling desperate. My next time I will be happy and succeed. I mean if I were to choose which way to feel after expereince it would be to feel happy.

If it was known what happens to us after this human form of ours wears out and that knowledge revealed that there actually is an afterlife--a good one--I could understand why those that are dissatisfied with their mortal lives might want to hustle on into that state of being. Since that knowledge is not available to us,most of us want to remain in our present forms as long as possible. Life is ALL we have and most likely all we'll ever have,IMO. Friend of mine stuck a rifle in his mouth and pulled the trigger. I can assure one and all--it was not beautiful. I would have had a difficult time convincing his kids that it was. If life gets to be so unbearable that a person just can't take it anymore, then suicide is obviously a way to stop the pain. I get the feeling that those that do commit suicide think that somehow he/she will be around somehow to see the reaction his/her action has had on those that remain. Kind of like going to your own funeral.

Seems like there has to be some alternative to turning ones body into a rotting sack of meat. I don't know. Maybe not. The sun will rise, the sun will set. The rivers will flow, children will be born and many of us will die. I want to see ALL of it as long as I can.

It is very selfish to kill you, just think of what your family and friends have to go though finding your head blown off. You will fuck them up in the head.

  8. It's just so hard to empathize with someone who has committed suicide, because do you agree life's not worth living?

It's fascinating how people of all different intellects come to that same conclusion, but is it a conclusion? Maybe some people are just so intensely into life they're totally facing that inevitability. They might not be looking at a life as something you continue from birth 'til death, but an adventure whose walls you tear through.

And then other people might just be sad. But I agree that neither way is selfish. Is suicide beautiful, is any death beautiful? It may be that we're so biased towards the beauty of our existence that most of us can't see our termination as being such. But the disgust a person feels at having to clean up the mess isn't a logical justification for saying that the act itself wasn't a beautiful experience for the victim.

There have been times in my life I have been way down and out. There are actual events and situations I could point to (but won't) that would made the most sane person question why or how can I keep on keepin' on. However, when it all came down to where the rubber met the road - I THOUGHT ABOUT SOMEBODY BESIDES MYSELF and knew I couldn't and wouldn't ever do such a selfish or weak thing.

So, yes...I think it is selfish, cowardly and overall the act of a weak person.

I shouldn't really judge because I do realize there are things that a person can be put through that may ultimately cause them to want to commit suicide...but I still think if a person would just get their minds off of themselves (if they can), they would see it differently.

The example you gave of the monks in the Vietnam war should not be included in this discussion imo. That is a totally different thing as far as I'm concerned. They weren't upholding the "beauty of suicide". If anything, they probably thought they were damning themselves by that act.

  10. I bet those monks who could sit absolutely still while being on fire thought it would be so amazing that people would realize some kind of spiritual transcendence must exist.

i agree completely! to me that type of bravery should be heralded all over the world. people need to be fearless and be not afraid of death or dying. look at these monks my god they lit themselves on fire and they didn't even cry or moan. that is profound and truly righteous! but i think all suicide is righteous. it's a rejection of life, whether his/her particular life or just life in general. being alive isn't some miracle, some people have it real bad. we should be celebrating suicide and death in many respects. because they are trapped souls and they are finally free. free from whatever hell they were experiencing.

  13. I just think it should be evaluated by scientists and philosophers. I wish instead of doing it as a protest they would have done it for the benefit of science, something positive. I think that would have been a better protest -- something a bit silly to juxtapose the war. "...in news besides the war tonight, a man is lighting himself on fire to help scientists better understand the human mind."

What they did is something science cannot explain, and it's real. That's better than a video of a ghost.

This verminous fellow's observations might be likened to the old parable of the elephant and the blind people. Asked to describe what an elephant is,one touches the trunk and says "an elephant is a long tube". Another touches the foot and says "an elephant is round and touches the ground". Another grabs the tail and says' an elephant is a little switch -like protuberance". And another touches a tusk and says" an elephant is very hard and pointed like a stick". I paraphrased --been a long time since I have seen it written, but the point is made,I think.

So verminous has grasped on to certain aspects of human interaction not unlike the blind people's grasp of one aspect of a very big animal/bag of human interactions.

One mistake he makes is to completely miss the other elements of life that to many/most see as beauty and is honed in sharply to the unpleasant or the downright horror of human interactions. That's a shame.

Second mistake he makes is that his belief will somehow make any differance at all to those that are left behind, except for a very few and a that a passing will change nothing of the horrendous behaviour he spends so much time abhoring in the world. Think a hundred years down the line or even just 20. No one will know and no one will care that a single person ended their life because of the actions over which he had no control whatsoever.

I suggest ---nah. I suggest nothing. Select how you want your life to be and go with it.

I just feel that humans have been conditioned to fear death. I mean there's always a natural tendency to want to live, self-preservation but we are so overly afraid of death or overly afraid of getting hurt or hurting someone else.

it's the liberal garbage that is conditioned and brain washed the masses into being so afraid they can't even make the decision to kill themselves. it's our life. we are all individuals and family and friends at some point mean nothing and we are all nomads essentially. family is a good thing but after awhile we're on our own. the point i'm trying to make is, humans are humans, we are brave and strong and fearless.

if we don't like our circumstances then by golly do something about it, fix it or end it. it's very simple. and for too long we look at suicide like a negative thing, we sweep it under the rug because nobody can really explain it. to me that encapsulates the beauty of it.

Liberal garbage? To fear death is absolute human nature. You haven't heard of the will to survive? It's the stongest imperative humans have. Do you know what happens after our physical bodies quit? No. You don't. And neither does anyone else. Therefore,it's a shame to waste time worrying about it. Just DO something that you find pleasing and not harmfull to others. Put in your time and then fade away like the rest of us. (I'm not saying any of it matters--who knows?)

Suicide is an act of mental illness. A desperate act, done by a person who needed help and found none.

There is nothing beautiful or romantic about it. Only tragedy.

I do not believe that suicide is selfish. I believe that you should do what you want to do without worrying too much about how it will effect others. However I would not go so far as to call it beautiful. Suicide is tragic to those close to the person that commits it.

What is bs, my point about liberalism infecting the human race and making us weak, scared and afraid? Or my other point about family and friends ultimately, when you get down to it, mean nothing when you've reached adulthood?

Now I'm sure there are some people who cling to family because they have a good family, great. And i'm sure there are people who are social butterflies and who have a million friends, what i'm saying is humans deep down are nomads. we are individuals aspiring for our own goals and dreams. Family really isn't something you need after you reach a certain age, I'm just pointing that out.

it's normal for people to flee the nest and never return, that's being human and venturing and exploring. bottom line is liberalism is a horrible idea that has blinded and fogged the vision of all the humans living in the western world mainly.
