I'll chip in on the republicans.Bush said regarding global warming--"we'll adjust".He is a dolt and was/is anti science as are the rest of the republicans when it goes up against their interests. The republicans have proven time and again that their most valued principle entails the transfer of money unchecked by rules, regulations and oversight to themselves and their cronies ,from the working class.Wall st is cranking out money again for those at the top and the banks AND the republicans are fighting tooth and nail against any type of regulation on themselves----"get government out of the way and let private business police themselves" is their clarion call.Yeah--they did a great job over the last several years. They've watered down the so-called health bill to such an extent, that it probably won't mean much if it passes. Conservatives always stand in the way of progress and they won't aknowledge global warming until their standing up to their knees in water and their hair is on fire.I will take the word of reputable scientists way before any people in here that still adhere to the conservative line. I don't like republicans and the way they think and I believe the industrial /robber baron age will be looked on as an aberration inimical to the health of the earth and all on it.
I think you pretty much nailed it. The true purpose of the Republican Party is to serve the interests of the rich, and all the rest is just PR propaganda to fool enough people to vote for them.
Thanks ,Sunfighter .What I would really like is for someone---anyone to tell me the GOOD that republicans do or have done for this country and its' citizens. They voted (still vote)against civil rights, social security ,single payer medicare and they are always against the working class on any issue. Someone please tell me(someone that has developed some critical thinking skills ,an understanding of history and is/are not reflective of mommy and daddy's influence) what they stand for, other than what I have mentioned.
More and more, I'm thinking that the Republicans have been totally irresponsible, that there is no chance at all for meaningful climate change legislation, that even if it there were and it passed today, it's too late, it won't make much difference. All the predicted effects of global warming will happen and will probably be worse than most of the worst predictions. Everyone who said it was a hoax was totally wrong.
Just to add: the NAO (northern atlantic oscillation) was negativ last winter and now its the same for the moment. no warm weather ahead and it gets even worse:
I forgot here the new page where you have the seasonal arctic oscillation index http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/daily_ao_index/JFM_season_ao_index.shtml @sunfighter Just showing graphically how the recently very negative NAO index is calculated to continue, as shows for example the global forecast system GFS (which is one of the best forecast systems available).
