^in reference to that, here's an article comparing us to cancer, with some remarkable similarities. However, I'd be quick to say CIVILIZATION is a cancer, not humans. We lived 95% of our history in tune with the earth, only in the last 5-10 thousand years have we diverged from that path. http://www.bluehoney.org/Cancer.htm
obviously man is screwing up the world cutting down trees to make more houses polluting lakes so we can all enjoy 'the pleasures of life' breaking the ozone layer i think the world would have alot cleaner air right now and i think their would be far more trees
I'd honestly say we only started fucking shit up after the Industrial Revolution. Really good link, btw.
^I disagree. Of course that's when the shit hit the fan, but we've been deforesting areas for centries. Like the Lebanese cedars, and I guess most of the Medeterranean area like Greece was once forested. The Anasazi civilization probably fell at least partly because of deforestation, same with the Easter Islanders. Plus, we were mostly seperated from nature (the city dwellers, at least, and they ran the show anyways), which at the very least set the stage for what's going on now.
^^ Hmmm.. I tried to dispute what you said but I find myself semi agreeing with you after some thought. We have been overtaking not only the environment but other cultures since the dawn of man. BUT only recently did we start really fucking shit up. I say this because only since the Industrial revolution did we really get the means to really start fucking shit up. Factories, transportation, they all lead to widespread pollution. Since we've discovered cures for common ailments that use to kill, the birth rate has drastically gone up which leads to a need for more land, more housing, which has in turn destroyed a good portion of our earth. Deforestation, while before was a problem, is now so destructive that we are causing species to go extinct at devestating rates.
There are still those annoying ignorent people who just dont give a damn and dont think that they make a difference, but it still makes a small difference even if you recycle and use earth friendly products. we just have to try and do all we can.
humans arnt killing the earth. our system is. we have developed too much, and the things people are doing nowadays are stupid as fuck. as long as you ahev food, and thigns to keep you warm, why the heck do we need cars? we wouldnt need cars if there was no system, because we would no longer have to work. the system is killing the earth for its own survival. people are cutting down wood to make papper, btu we dont need papper. we wouldnt need it if we didnt have jobs or had to go to school... the things that really matter seem given to us naturally. now we worry more about the next pair of clothes we will buy, and the plasma screen tv we are saving up for. if we hadnt lost sight of the basics, then the world would be a better place. fuck over acheivers, they are going to kill us all.
Ha. I just had a convo with my family...and we might be moving out of the US!!! Free at last Free at last!!!
Ultimately, the planet is more flexible than our species. This doesnt mean that we dont harm the planet. So far we have been very wasteful. Epecially my country, USA, who uses 25% of the resources and only have 5% of the population.
Remember dinosaurs, neanderthals, etc. Also ancient civilizations like Easter Island and those cliffside cave dwellers who vanished. An asteriod or some kind of global superbug/upheavel will balance out our evil treatment of gaia.
This planet has survived several different dominant species. Humans aren't the FIRST, and we WON"T be the last. But, we'll be around awhile longer I think.
if humans tried really hard, and made a shit load of bombs, im sure if they really put their mind to it they could destroy earth... but the chances is, its going to outlive us because at the rate were going were going to kill everyone. you cut down enough trees, we wont have paper. big deal. trees grow back. only take what you need, and help our race survive... but it wont matter in the end beacause we all die.
If human continue to act in this way, I think we are heading to self-destruction. Unless all nations take steps to prevent it from happening. I think they is no way out. We are already starting to feel and see the effects of global warming and scientists say that it would become worst in the coming years...
