Is Joining The Military Stupid?

Studies show that the national guard lies when recruiting more than any other military branch in the U.S. That's MY main beef. If you're going to manipulate vulnerable teenagers to die for your country, at least tell them the truth.

 

The entire reply is not based on the quote. Its just expresses my opinion in reply to the 78 comments before me.

They havent lied to me, im not betting on anything other then having the military as a refernce.
I havent got sucked into a signing bonus I could care less about it if I even get it. I am signing up for a mininum of 6 years my first time.
If I get sent to iraq im not choosing a combat job. Once im there i'll come home with a fatter bank account then when I left something I wont get here on the streets because of paying life expences, that is if I make it home. Im not being nieve about the situation either its a chance I have to take. Just like waking up and going outside I risk the same chance of being a victim of the many violent crimes happening in america.
I do know that the job im choosing will get me work both in and out the army; Motor transportaion. I'll be leaving ait with CDLs and i'll only be 19!!wow. My father makes since 60k even in this economy with CDLs something im looking foward. I cant imagine being able to put on a resumee saying I was trained in the national guard to drive trucks and I already have exp.
Not to mention there isnt a lie in knowing i'll get help with college. I'm not sure how much real help you get but any help is better then none.
Once youve deployed and you come you have a rest period, id go full blown army if I didnt wont to stay deployed for the rest of my life. I dont mind everyonce in awhile.
What about earning respect for your self, do none of yall wont to test yourself and see if your army strong. Since day one the countries of the world has always had armies its an honest living and even if you all dont join for your own conspiracy reasons there will be people ahead of you that will. The since of pride they earn from it you cant take from them because of your own reasons.

Do you all not have faith in god that this world is part of a bigger plan. If I die over sea's so be it. This world sucks. I dont daydream on owning a big house, 5 cars, etc..

Besise with the chance of the new world order and other secret goverment plans i'd rather have my place in the goverment then against it.
You all can say you can run from these plans but what if you cant. All anarchy motherfuckers cant strike up against a world goverment, whether you hide in caves youre still property of the goverment. You was born with a social card number youve been owned since birth.
Who wonts to live in a cave anyways? There is a way to live free and pay your respect.

Depending on what you want to do in the service and get out of your hitch the military can be a good thing. But like everything in life it isn't for everybody. You can learn things and use equipment that isn't available in the real world. You'll make friends and have experiences that you would never had out side of the military. You just have to know what you're getting in to.

To say that joining the military is inherently stupid is just fucking retarded.

To say that joining the military for the purpose of going to fight in Iraq, I would say is questionable, but probably stupid, depending upon the true motive and purpose.

Say what you will about it, but the military does serve a useful purpose. If the United States didn't have a military, it wouldn't exist. A military is the object by which a country can enforce its foreign policies. Note that enforcing foreign policy is NOT inherently evil, or related to empire-building.

What would have happened to the world if everyone thought that joining the military was stupid during World War II? We'd have a world run by the Gestapo. Any judgment on those who join the military must be performed on a case-by-case basis, depending on the true driving force to enlist.

Here are some valid reasons to join the military in general, APART from what modern world events
1. protect your family; self-defense of the nation.
2. solid career opportunity, if you are smart and capable
3. "start over" - a lot of people join the military because it is a viable option once getting out of jail. The military can provide support, physical and mental discipline, and a steady income to those that don't have any direction in life

should we even have a military at all? if joining the military is stupid, then even having one is stupid as well... or do you just want to take advantage of all of the people stupid enough to join?

Joining any form of military is stupidity and suicide. you're selling your soul to the government and to the warpigs as brainless cannon fodder, as another life thrown away. By joining or supporting the military you support the military, the war, and the government. Stop trying to glorify it by saying you're a hero, talking about "brotherhood", or lying and saying you're "defending your country".
You ain't no hero, you're a robot with a gun, and perhaps a murderer.
You can find better brotherhood in the peace corps or a commune.
defending our country means defending it against the pigs, the government, the military, those who oppress us.

 

Enlisting or doing ROTC has awesome benefits and pay. they do help pay for college, you get health benefits, cost of living is cheap, etc.

 

if no one anywhere ever enlisted in any military the bennifits to the species and the planet would be tremendous.

 

In my opinion, joining the military is just like everything else.

If you're not strong, don't have willpower, and aren't true with yourself, then it'll be terrible.

But the best people make the best out of all situations.

Im in ROTC. I think its some peoples only way out....It might be mine. Cause the Army..pays for schooling and stuff. So, I might join. Im awesome in ROTC, so the Military should be fairly easy for me. I wanna do psychology...So I wont actually be fighting and shit. Which is good. cause I do hate war. But the military is some peoples way out.

 

While I personally wouldn't I don't think anyone who joins the military and knows the risks involved can be classified as stupid, they know what they're doing and have their reasons.

 

he does have a point... if NO ONE from ANYWHERE in the world ever joined any military, we would be waaay better off. who are you going to defend against if there is no one to attack you?

 

My lil bro is in ROTC and he's doing engineering and I am so proud of that lil fucktard. he's getting an education and doing something with his life and he'll be taken care of for life. I can support that.

 

I served, but would have to give some thought about which side to join were I to serve again.
