It's gonna take awhile to transition...I've been saying Kateri over and over, trying to make it feel natural, trying to make it mine. I told a couple of friends about it, they thought it was weird at first until I explained how much I hate my birth name and why.
Ive had so many nicknames/alternate names I dont really mind what Im called, with few exceptions, what I dont understad is why you would legally change it, just introduce yourself different, as od now depending on who it is I can be calle Michael, Brian, Arto, B, lazy bum, chabelo, and several other which I haven't been called in a long time
It's not a big deal to legally change my name and it won't cost that much, so I say why not? I have to get new ID soon anyway....

lmao at mandy's stella blue thats so cute. when i was younger i wanted people to call me vada because i was obsessed with the movie my girl. and I'm the same amy,,,i was introduced to my husband by his nickname and have since changed it to Rance, I've never called him by his real name (Philip) it just doesn't suit him. His parents hate that I call him that though.
kateri is a beautiful name. my name is laurel. i was named after my dad and i like my first name but i don't care for my middle name. its elizabeth. i am named after my mother who i really don't speak to. when i got married i wanted to change it to something else and not use my maiden name or elizabeth but they told me i had no choice so i kept elizabeth. but now if i could i would have pushed the issue to change it to something else.
i think if you want to change it and it makes you happy, there may not be a better time than now... "be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind dont matter and those who matter dont mind." and lastly,... a rose by any other would smell just as sweet
Amy, thats like me and my bf!! He always knew me by my nickname, and he and his family still call me it xD Its painful to be called Rebecca by anyone xD Different groups of people call me different things, and I don't answer if one person calls me something different than what they usuall call me, even if I'm called that somewhere else!! Its so weird xD Bc, if you're already known as Kat by your mum, the change shouldn't be such a trauma/suprise!! Its so easy changing what you've been called, with a new goup of people its easy, its odd at first to get used to but they won't dream of calling you anything different
kathleen is my sisters name, and we call her kat. i also know a hairdresser (whodda thunk?) and her name is kateira and she goes by kat. honestly it'll be hard to get people to call you by your name. they won't take you sriously. it'll be a constant battle. but, go for it!
bcmama, I had a great friend that i went to high school with, and i found out at a party a few years ago that he changed his name. Ive talked to him since, and he is really happy with the change, his life acually improved quite alot.... He felt that it was like a new fresh start. That he could be more positive in a social aspect because of how the new name made him feel. A new confidence that he was acually proud to present himself with a name that projected his persona with upmost respect and dignity.... Im rambling lol...:sifone:

for what it's worth I think tanya is a pretty name.... kat is more common. but I dig where you're coming from
